Easily...
Aces High http://www.hitechcreations.com/
or
Fighter Ace (II) http://www.microsoft.com/games/zone/fighteraceII/
The feeling of immersion in these games is simply incredible... last time I played Aces High (some time ago) there was about 160 of us split into two factions. We had massive battles for the control of a couple of bases... it was sooo intense because there was a land battle going on with Tanks, Tanks were under attack from ground attack aircraft, they where under attack from close air support aircraft, heavy bombers where in use (with crews) + fighter escort, dogfights where in progress etc... simply amazing!

Having got myself DSL and worked out that on a large selection of Q3A servers I get a ping less than 30, I'm back into online games!!!
question is, which ones? I'm bored of Q3 and SoF.
Any comments on my website too (I haven't put much there yet, but I'm chuffed with the banner image)

Everquest - take a look at http://www.everquest.com - but not tonight because they're releasing a huge new patch/upgrade to the game (the 3rd major expansion), and all 300,000 active addicts (aka players) will be trying to access their website while the game servers are down.
It's a first person perspective massively multiplayer role playing game (Dungeons and Dragons type thing). Unlike games like Quake, you save "camp out" of the game when you've finished, and next time you start playing, you carry on where you left off. I play this game to the exclusion of all other PC games, and have done for about 18 months. But be warned, if you get hooked, then it can be very very addictive - dangerous almost, and I don't jest.
Regards,
Gary.

I everquest still going strong?
i was really into it for the first 6 months when it came out as my whole quake 2 clan moved onto that and we all knew each other and grouped a lot so got up to level 12 fairly quickly.
then i went away for 4 weeks and when i returned they were too high for me to group and it lost its appeal.
I attempted to play it again last year but as i was povar (one of the older servers) most players are REALLY high level and selling any item is impossible as most have it, and money is up around the lira stakes to buy anything decent

Yes Everquest is still going strong, and the latest expansion Shadows of Luclin adds a whole load new game content, as well as a brand new graphics engine, with the promise of loads new detail.
A new UK based server opened up three weeks ago - I play on that about half of the time with friends for a laugh. Once you know the ropes of the game, it's not hard to level up to do interesting stuff - made L21 with just a couple of weeks casual play, and have some okayish equipment. My main characters are on a player-kill server (Vallon Zek), where I have a L55 necromancer and L54 cleric - don't ask me how long I've spent playing these characters, it's frightening
Cheers,
Gary.

thats exactly why i dont really wanna loose my bard on povar.
shes only level 12 or so, but ive been given a whole load of quality armour (which i cant wear all of it as im not high enough level to carry it!) a nice little axe that does 20-30 damage per hit, and a staff with a skull on top that does 40-50 + fires a fireball after the hit (though half the time it fails as i havent got enough will power to control it).
i really dont wanna start again attacking spiders and snakes etc.......

What's the deal with Everquest? Do you buy the game once and then you can play forever?
I play Legend of Mir (a lot) - www.legendofmir.net. Free to download but you pay every month so it gets a bit expensive (£17 for 3 months).
Thanks
Kevin.

Everquest you buy the game then also have to pay to play online (either monthly, quarterly or yearly) i can't remember the amounts as its so long since ive played it.
If i but the new version of Everquest, does it come with the previous upgrades on it? (also meaning ruins of kunark etc) ?

With Everquest, there's an online subscription of $9.95 per month. It's fair enough really, since they have a huge number of game servers (and each logical server is actually a large number of physical machines) which run the gaming world, and they are always working on new content. There's no way they could provide the amount of content and depth to the game otherwise (imagine a quake map where it would take you 3 hours to run from one side to the other, and about 3 years to explore it all).

There is a deluxe edition box for £30, which includes original game, ruins of Kunark, Scars of Velious. The new expansion, Shadows of Luclin is out in the Uk on Friday.

You should be able to play your old bard, even if you have previously cancelled your subscription (they've never deleted chars, even though they reserve the right to after 3 months). However, you would need to make sure that you reactivate the subscription against your old station name.

Is Everquest better than Ultima?
I played it briefly (i.e. the free play period) before becoming bored - we had a laugh one night after much lager legging around as a pink trousered bare chested ponse abusing any French players that happened by. oh dear.....

Oh, and I've played the Command & Conquer games a fair bit on line. It's fun finding a student then launching a tirade of abuse at to distract them before the final assault...... heh heh

ultima online is excellent and very addictive.
m8 of mine runs his own server - tis up around 18 hrs a day 7 days a week.
well worth a look and the games going cheaply these days.
u have to pay to play on the 'proper' servers but my m8's is FREE

'1nsane' by Codemasters is an excellent off-road driving game. Physics model is fantastic. Played it quite a bit a few months back. I believe they were in the process of updating the server so that cheating would be disabled, but it's one of those games where you push the joystick so hard you feel it might snap! Excellent Force Feeback also.

Bought this for a bargain tenner in EB

Nope - another vote for UT here. If you're used to fast-paced Q3 you'll enjoy the even faster UT a lot more than that sluggish boring Countersleep.
After all - when was the last time you got a 'Monster Kill' or the ability to fire a nuke in CS?
