Default Is it the time of year for deaths?

Yes I know it happens every day around the world

but this last week

My sisters next door neighbour finally lost her battle against cancer, and sadly died just before New Year

My mums neighbour died (was an old friend of the family) after a fall on xmas holiday to family

The eldest's friend from schools dad had the life support turned off new years eve (thread on horrendous crash near me)

Little Ellie getting savaged by her uncles dog (I didnt know her or her family, but my mum knows of the uncle etc, only a couple of miles from us)

plus the various celebs, and former presidents etc

must be something in the january air

there's always news stories of tragic deaths or celebs/famous people dying. going by personal experience I'd say these stories have just caught your eye more because of the unfortunate recent deaths of people you know.

Apaprt from cancer and stuff, people eat ****e, drink too much and their hearts give up, my grandad had a heart attack on Boxing day (many years ago) and I think that may have been coincidence but also down to too much food, beer and sitting down, its a change to the routine that is keeping you going.

my mum died in december 5 yrs ago and all of her family died in december, she said they were cursed. On christmas day I was waiting for my dad to come round and I got a call from my sister, he had collasped twice and blacked out and got rushed to hospital. I spent chrimbo day in hospital with him and he is still there now as noone knows what is causing his problem (massive blood pressure drop when he stands up, so low they cannot get a reading! - in fact I am going to do a post to see if there are any medical type people on here)

I`ve heard that too. My old man went January 2004. Apparently very popular time of year for heart failure after all the self indulgance.

I doubt there is anything statistically significant about the time of year, maybe more vulnerable people dying but then you'd get that in a hot summer too.

I used to work for a recruitment agency that supplied temps to a funeral parlour. When I went to visit the client one of the standard questions is "Are there any seasonal trends in your business?" He told me that their very busiest period is immediately after the Christmas and New Year period as many people somehow push themselves to "hang on" - once it's over, in many cases there's not another specific big occasion for them to hang on for.

I would have thought Christmas would be motivation enough to go early ?
