Unhappy Trapped nerve advice

The other half has been having really violent headaches for the last week. Nowt to do with the drink
Went to the quacks this morning to be told he has a trapped nerve in the base of his neck and to take Ibuprofen which he said will reduce the inflammation and hopefully release the nerve. He has been told it might take days or even months to be put right. He is in agony, anyone ever had this and got any ideas on how to move things along a bit quicker
Poor soul can't even play his guitar, peace for me but hell for him

He's got the opposite problem. He can't get comfy in bed
So he is propping himself up with loads of pillows, so I can't sleep now. Am off to the huffy bed tonight

had to deal with trapped nerves quite a few times while i've been coaching, tbh the bad news is threse no real easy solution, time can be the only cure, he may find he'll wake up one day and it will be back to norm as it free's itself.

Tidgy, after the jokes, I must be honest to being worried. He is holding his head all the time. It seems really nasty. I hope you and Steph are right and it goes swiftly

fingers crossed, on bad days try ice on it, be a bit carefull though cos its good on swelling but cold can be a bit painfull, so try it and see. massages can help as well moving muscle and ligaments around can help free them as well. is it def neck and not back?

some comfort is if it keeps giving him grief he will prob get refered to a specialist who can offer more advice, give it a couple of weeks and then go back to the docs and see if thats an option, although gps are normally pretty good, specialist are always the best. also might be worth giving some sports injury clinics a ring, they might not be able to help directly (or they may) but sure they can at least possibly point you in the direction of more help.

I've always found a good proper massage works These days I'm in the right place for it too

Never had much to do with the 'alternative' side of medicine before I came here (or the conventional either, touch wood) But recently I've tried a couple of chinese foot massages, and their effects on my neck, back, and body in general have been amazing

bit sceptical of things like this, however if it relax's the correct muscles then the nerve may just free itself. not sure how feet connect to neck though?

I was always a bit sceptical myself, but done properly, a massage is a wonderful thing

Not quite sure how the feet connect to the neck myself, but whatever he did worked for me

try using an ibuprofen anti inflamitary cream, DO NOT use it with ibuprofen tablets though!!! the pharmacist will be able to give you some other tablets that can be taken whilst using the cream. Because you can put the cream on the problem area, it should work alot better than the tablets, because it will be more localised for the pain. Dont get a heat cream though. My physiotherapist suggested this to me and seemed to work, hope it helps.

Whatever works for him - it may be a something like deep heat or ralgex or ice packs or Ibuprofen. Try to retain some movement as the neck (or other joints) will stiffen if it's not used. Took me about 3 months after trapping one in my lower back.

Remind him that pain is just weakness leaving the body.

You think I was even remotely interested enough to read what anyone else had to say? Now that IS funny

No, I just wanted a cheap and easy shot at 84ofwhatever. I can't be held responsible for the fact that she obviously has a queue of people wanting to do the same.
