Carluccios is a good and reasonable bet - One in Putney, One in Canary Wharf.
Gauchos in Canary Wharf is very nice if you like meat.

Also rate the Citrus Restaurant overlooking Green Park -
Park Lane Hotel, London, W1J 7BX

Citrus Restaurant is a 60-seat restaurant adjacent to The Park Lane Hotel in Piccadilly, offering fabulous Mediterranean flavours from France, Italy, Greece, Spain and Morocco. The restaurant has leafy views across Green Park. The bright, modern decor features shades of okra, green, aquamarine and yellow with wooden tables, leather banquette seating and a spectacular stainless steel ceiling light.

Thanks again.

Don't mind too much on budget, but Gordon Ramsey's is a bit OTT.

Maybe somewhere really romantic.....as i'm that kinda guy?!

El Pirata in Mayfair. Aunthetic Spanish food and so romantic that it's where I proposed to my wife!

I think carluccios is a bit cheap and cheerful but each to thier own.

Le Gavroche is the nuts
But Claridges the Hakasan and Petrus are very good.

For Italian try Cipriani.
I would reccomend vertigo 42 but its shut. there is a new Ramsay one called La Noisette which looks good but I have never been there. At £50.00 pp it seems a pretty good price for the Menu though.

Many thanks guys. Again, just checking them up. It isn't an easy task is it?

I've seen a number of places saying jacket for dress code, which is maybe a touch much IMHO and tat then makes me weary of booking somewhere that doesn't state dress code, then go and turn up to be told to get a jacket!

As already mentioned, Gaucho Grill (and there are several) are great for steaks - best I've had in London.

Rhodes 24 has great views though is a little pricey for the quality of food.

The Blue Print Cafe in Butlers Wharf (Conran) has great views of Tower Bridge, is decent food and is pretty reasonably priced.

Maze is ok if you want to eat at a Ramsay restaurant which is cheaper and not so formal as some of his others.

Do a search on london-eating for more ideas.

Gary.

wouldnt a few "clues' about what type of food, how much, roughly where etc etc

help

Small and romantic? "Andrew Edmunds". BUT ONLY UPSTAIRS AND BY THE WINDOWS !

Turkish: "tas pide" next to the "Shakespeare theatre by the river.

Chinese: Anywhere other than China town. The food is terrible there.

Thai: "barsuba" in Soho. great food but shared table type eating. "mango tree" (My favourite) near Buck palace. Realy classy Thai restaurant.

OXO tower. for people who like Rolex watches and think they are good !

My "secret " place for fantastic food.... famous people and some ultra cool Dj's some nights is a Gallery. The rest of the info is secret ! its too cool to have the mass turn up.

O.. I nearly forgot. "Le troi garsons" in hackney (Brick Lane) very very "In" and they own "Lounge Lover" (if you dont know this club then stay out of London !)

Not fussed about what type of food, but i'd sway more towards Italian.

Budget, as said isn't a problem, but £100+ PP is OTT.

Staying in the Millenium Gloucester, so would prefer to be REASONABLY close to that. Not too bothered as long as the meal is worth it.

if you can get in try Hakkasan friday morning call the Ivy as they may have cancellations. Thats when they ring around to see if you want your table.

If you have no luck then try one of the Conrans , Quaglinos is my fav. if you have the means I would recommend all 3

Aubergine is about 10 mins walk from your hotel and absolutely fantastic. Would be pushing your budget though for dinner, but lunch there would be a lot cheaper.

Very many thanks guys. This is well aprreciated.

I've been hunting through all you've suggested and through a few London eating guides.

Fancied quite a few including Quaglinos and Rhodes 24, but we both decided to try the Beach Blanket Babylon. Hopefully it's as good as the guides say...leaving for the airport in 45 minutes.

Thanks again.

Agree on Smiths or try the restaurant at Bleedin Heart but you are unlikely to get a table at this late stage.

Burger King

Pizza hut

McDonalds

KFC

Beefeater

All have outlets in the big smoke,

reasonable prices too

why you want to eat novel cuisine is beyond me...

piddly little portions, that try to resemble art deco on a plate,

laced with keywords that make you think your getting something special...

if its drizzled, it must be good?? wtf, oil dropped over a few slices of goats

intestine and given a fancy name

The Misses has booked lunch at Claridges (in Feb) for us as an Xmas pressie - didn't sound too pricey.

L'Escargot, La Gavroche or even the River Cafe are good bets.

Smiths top floor and bleeding heart are both right by my office, and both as said above are top notch. However ever better is Club Gascon the opposite side of Smithfield Market.

The owner is the main UK importer of Foie Gras.

Try their taster menu, with a different wine with each course. I think it's also Michelin Star'd.
