My daughters homework for over the holidays is to make a musical instrument! so we thought who better to come up with a good idea for something easy to make (shes 10) than the good people of scoobynet.
homework:
To design and make a simple but completely new musical instrument!
Your instrument may have strings/drums/wind or a mixture of them all. You should aim to make enough different notes to play a simple tune, which you will then play when you bring it to school. You should also experiment with ways of making the notes on your instrument louder or quieter.
So come on people, lets see who comes up with the best (read: we are strugling to come up with something new) and CLEAN please, I have to show this post to the kids.

How about, get some identical glass bottles (maybe the glass coke bottles rather than say empty tequila bottles) and fill them with different amounts of water, so when you whack them with a teaspoon etc they play different notes. The amount of water in each bottle affects the note it plays. When you've filled the bottles and tested/tuned them, suspend them in a wooden frame/box etc with string/nylon.
Bit hard to carry to school, but ok if you can give her a lift.
