The child pulling the rotti's tail while it's eating!, shouldn't you be telling him not to?

Seems like a valid point ! If anyone had tried that with my old Border Collie they'd have had their fingers to play with !

we want the dog to get used to it so he doesnt turn nasty while hes eating, dont worry we aint using my boy as a test dummy, i wouldnt let him do it if i knew the dog would react or without supervision. I know it aint nice for the dog to be played with while eating but our last rotti pup was so nasty u couldnt even take a toy away from him without him biting and drawing blood so we gona cover all aspect so he will grow up to be a loyal family dog especially towards the kids. I know what ppl think about rotti and at the end of the day if u bring them up right, right from the beginning then they are safe and loyal dogs as the next, we,ve had 3 now plus ive always been brought up with big dogs so i know how to go about things.

I mean't training your son not to pull dogs tails, as he may decide to do the same one day to a dog he doesn't know!

The pics look cute. Looks like a nice gog. But the little un has to know not to pull tails - he'll do it on a grown up dog that's in a bad mood someday !

Now buy "The Perfect Puppy" by Gwen Bailey - gives very good advice on de-sensitisation and socialisation.

It's great the way they try and get around the cold hard facts of dangerous dogs by posting pictures of an adorable puppy, isn't it.

Come on, someone post some pictures of your children playing with a cute grizzly bear cub so that we may all 'coo' and 'aaaw' and forget that you are harbouring a dangerous animal within your family unit.

Quite right Gene. Dogs -especially those with strong guarding instincts- should be trained such that they are not possessive over food and toys, BUT Children must ALSO be trained at a young age to respect the dogs privacy, too. Even the nicest child can sometimes treat a dog a little like a toy and even the most placid animal can turn nasty in a heartbeat. With a full grown Rottie I don't need to spell out what the consequences for your son would be should it have a bad day!

A Rottie is not a "dangerous" breed of dog, but it does need respect because of the large size it grows to. They're gentle, loving, playful loyal dogs generally, but they do have strong guarding instincts, combine that with a irresponsible chavy owner who thinks its clever to train aggression and you have problems.

Very well said, always used to train our Boxers with similar tactics, taking the bowl away when they were not finished etc.

so your saying a rotti is a dangerous animal, its ppl like u who give rotti a bad name, every dog has a dangerous bite its only due to the size and power of them, reason why ppl use them as guard dogs etc, but if brought up right they make a lovely family animal, i would never put my family in danger so unless u know what your on about id keep it shut m8
