Annoying Political Correctness
A female colleague of mine broke her wrist yesterday. It was too swollen for a full cast, so she had a half-cast put on until the swelling went down.
I just briefed one of our internal HR departments of her absence for the next few weeks and was told off for saying "half cast". Apparently I should have said "half plaster-cast" or something that would not be deemed offensive.
Sorry, getting REALLY f*cked off with this PC bollox

<tidgy would post a responce but is waiting for HR to approve comment to make usre its PC>
complete bollox, perhaps you should have rung the hospital and wasted the doctors time to get the corect term for the break, the method it was cast (is that correct), and correct description for its removal.
heres the simple answer.
she's bust her wrist so wont be in, docs note on way.
job done easy peezy lemon squeezy

"Dear HR department,
A "half cast" is a perfectly acceptable description for the medical device being referred to. If YOU are misinterpreting this phrase for a derrogatory term -if it is even a derrogatory term- for a "person of mixed race" then this is a fault on YOUR part, not mine!
In any case, it was perfectly obvious what I was referring to given the context of the E-mail.
Please remove your heads from your backsides and join the real word!
Sincerely,

F**CKING JOKE I hate sh*t like this. I'd take this as far as I could and say that I find it dergetory to be pulled up for something so innocent and trivial!

Put it in writing.
You are referring to a "half cast" which is also affectuionately known as a back-slab.
Your HR dweebs are referring to a "half caste" - an E, as many ravers will tell you, makes all the difference

Hard to believe isn't it, what a bunch of plonkers.
As was stated above you could have told them that what you said was perfectly clear since the "caste" is indeed spelt with an "e".
That would have at least shut them up while they tried to work that one out.

I would be more concerned about the woman taking a "few" weeks off for a broken wrist.
When I did mine, I shattered it, had to have a metal plate put in, four screws, and a bone graft from my hip, so I was on a crutch too.
Total time off work - 1 week.
Bloody work shy women.

Chap I used to work with came in after having a heart attack. The silly sod didn't realise what had happened and was taken to hospital with chest pains shortly after lunchtime. After a tripple bypass he was back at work within a month!

Actually PeteBryant has a point. I had 5 hours surgery putting my shattered right elbow back together on the Saturday morning (after doing the damage on Thursday) and was back at work the next Thursday. Feckin' useless for a couple of days, but I was there...
Of course, if she's a tennis racquet tester or works heavy machinery then that's different - it was 8 weeks before I could play squash again

Yes. It has nothing to do with the "N" word. A US politician was sacked for using it, then everyone realised it is a perfectly valid word that has nothing to do with the "N" word. Lots of humble pie all round. Exactly the reason I used it, to highlight everyone's sensitivity nowadays.
