Default What glue to use on a tyre

Got a slight tear/flap where the tyre kissed the kerb.

Only small, but big enough for me to want to do something about it.

What's the best glue to stick it back with.

It's on the rim lip of the tyre that's there to cushion the wheels when rubbing up to a kerb.

Thanks

Replace it NOW or suffer a blow out on the motorway.

Your two post are the same kind of answers i would have given if I had of read my post

The tear is not great, it's small and is on the section that's there to protect the wheel rims.

If i had any doubt it was in need of changing i would, even at £200 odd.

Thinking about it, i might just pop down my tyre place and ask them to take the tyre off to have a look and go by what they say.

Thanks

rb - I did a MatEng degree and did lots on rubber - Believe me, that little tear could very quickly turn into a big problem.

Get it checked - If your tyres are £200 a go, I'm assuming they are pretty high performance tyres? Even more reason to get it looked at!

If you can't see the cord behind the tear, then technically, well in MOT standards anyway, your legal.

I know many tyres have wheel rim protectors on the edges with equates to a good 5mm of excess rubber that is not a structural part of the tyre, which is even thicker on some 4x4/off road tyre walls. So if its one of these types of tyres you maybe ok, if it has no rim protectors, or its too deep, replace it.

So it depends how big and deep the tear and if the tyre has rim protectors.

I'd carry on using it as long as I could not see canvas.

Just pull the bit of rubber off.

Have you tried a nail to hold it back in place, or a brass screw?

LOL, Na! I've used a staple gun, that's done the trick and now it looks well cool.

Not on the 4x4, it's on the RS6

Went to Guildford Tyres today and they looked over it and said it was fine. Either needs cutting off or sticking back.

Out with the glue at the weekend. I'll use what someone else suggested, Glue from a bicycle tyre repair kit.

I did think super glue but that goes off hard with no flex. With the flex of the tyre I thought it could keep unsticking.

Would be the quickest thing to try first though. I'll give it ago tonight

Done with "Superglue" tonight and it worked well.

Was only a small flap that needed sticking so fingers crossed that's the last of that.
