powder coat or paint wheels?
got a spare set of new rims for the CTR, wanted to change them to white, how much would I be looking at, and is it worth getting them powder coated, or is paint just as good ?

Was getting mine done a few years ago and asked 4 wheel cpompanies at the Autosport show which was best, powder coated or painted.
All said painted was the only way to go.

If the prep is done right then painting is fine, does need a lotta a laquer on top.
It took me a week to refurb our old Mk1 MR2's wheels and they looked spot on, had the car 2 years after that and they never flaked or peeled.
Also did my Mk2 RS2000 wheels which where a real *******, two colour paint and a highly polished rim!
Did it myself rotating the spare in one at a time until completed, took two days per wheel - just the cost of materials

That is only important if the tyres are directional!

incase anyone doesn't know how powder coats work... They charge the wheel with a positive electrical charge, then the powder paint is sprayed at the wheel, and the powder has a negative charge, which is attracted to the wheel and sticks on. Theoretically, you could spray a whole wheel from just one side, as the paint will find its way all over the wheel due to the magnetic effect. I know powder coaters who have sprayed many of my bikes and friends bikes and i know how difficult it is to get an accurate layer of paint. Creases/bends/indents etc collect more paint than flat suraces and convex surfaces and outer edges always end up with much less paint.
I'd always go with straight up 'wet' paint for the wheels. Try looking for Motorcycle sprayers. They're usually up for something on the side, and in my experience, take more care than the average car body shop! They are normally up for spraying anything as long as it will fit in the booth. I'm thinking of geting mine sprayed in carbon grey/gunmetal grey. Not really sure yet.
****, that was a long post!
