Pedigree cats
I had to put my cat down of 11 years a few weeks ago due to liver cancer. I have been looking at getting another and am thinking about a bengal or other pedigree cat. Anyone have any experience of them? I want a cat that I can let outside and treat as a normal cat and don't want to keep it inside all the time.

I've got a Blue Point Siamese and an Oriental Shaded Tabby. Both very loving cats. A bit vocal tho'
They tend to stay indoors more in the winter, but they are out most of the time in the summer

Have had a couple of Abysinnians and Egyptian Maus. Much more interesting than your usual Moggie. Very loving etc, can be vocal. Bl**dy good hunters! Normal moggies sleep most of the time - pedigrees a lot less.
If you're going to buy one check out several breeders and choose based on them, not just the cat. Be prepared for a wait as you normally have to put your name down and then you won't get the kitten until it's 3 months old/had it's first jabs etc

I was looking at a Bengal a few months ago as a replacement for my lost Felix cat.
Billy was a big muscular b**tard who looked after our other cat 'out on the street'so when he was lost, we wanted another big intelligent cat.
Now Bengals are big!! but the one thing that put me off is that they love climbing and jumping around, I've got far too much nice stuff in my house for a cat to be jumping around wrecking it. I've read that Bengal's can get quite lonely and become quite distructive out of boredom so the fact that we are out at work during the day kind of made the decision for us.
I love the orientals especially Burmese, but again there are drawbacks. I've heard too many nightmare stories about them being stolen as they are so trusting and not being able to look after themselves and so getting beat up by other cats.
In the end, we bought a British Shorthair (blue) looks like the cat off the Sheeba advert.
Honestly, BSs are a right laugh. Really confident, big, boistrous, eqaully happy with people or on their own.
Jasper my BS, loves playing, he sits in the office with me during the day, sits on the window sill and watches me cook and they don't mind being teased a bit and pulled around either.
all in all great cats and there are loads of good breeders

I have a British Blue too. Really nice cats, if a bit thick... Likes to be in the same room as you and will follow me around - I do feed him after all! In alot in the winter, sleeps on our bed and sits on our laps, but only on his terms.
He seems highly strung and doesn't like strangers. But in the company of his "family" he is very nice. He has never really gone for me and has only got angry under provocation! He doesn't bring in dead vermin and will shy away from conflict with other cats - this does mean he has been known to share his food!
Overall, a great cat!

Copied from last time cats came up......
Our 1st cat, Oscar. The most gentle, loving cat I've ever known. Not once did he ever use his claws on us....
...no matter what we did.
He was killed on the road, so then "Harry met Sally"....
...and they fell in love ...
...but Sally unfortunately died of FIP, leaving poor Harry alone...
...until Albert arrived...
...and drank all my beer...
...then Harry ate all my crisps...
Oscar - Ragdoll Blue Point
Harry - Tiffanie
Sally - Ragdoll Seal Point
Albert - Ragdoll Seal Point
From experience, ragdolls are as soft as can be. They will virtually never use their claws and crave company and contact, and if kept in will show little interest in the outside world. Our Tiffanie however is full of character and has his own will, but is very loving and must have his cuddles no matter what, but will use his claws if pushed. He'd love to get out, but they are both indoor pets.

my neighbour has a bengal, it's always sat outside his back door whingeing to go in.
If i'm out in the garden and leave the back door open, it comes in my house for a ****, which is nice.

I for one chose a pedigree this time around as I wanted a cat of specific behaviour. In the main, a pedigree cat will fit the general behaviour of the breed.
I've had rescue cats and they can be scatty. I've got 1 rescue tabby that after 5 years still wont come near me.
No doubt some people will buy a cat because of how it will fit in with the decor but I would say that most do not. That kind of behaviour is much more apparent in wannabee celebrity types.

We have a Bengal called Taz, he is quite a scatty cat, prob. because of the way the breeder raised him. I went on my own to get him and fell in love, my Husband said if he had been there he wouldn't have bought an animal after I told him the Mother had just had another litter.
Taz is very vocal.
Bud our Maine Coon is completley different, behaves like a dog, very loving towards us, such a lovely bundle of fluff. Quite quiet compared to Taz.
Jasper is a Scouse Moggie given to us by Big G, he has so much energy compared to the ped. cats

Lot's of nice cat's thanks, I love the look of 84of300's cats and Taz looks great. He's massive with really nice markings. Does he molt much? We are going to see one tomorrow, he is nine weeks old the breeder is registered with the GCCF so will have one in a few weeks. I will post pics if we get him.

We have a Bengal called Chew (used to be Jade until she started chewing everything in sight), she's a very attractive cat and has lots of personality. As for the fur, it's very smooth and she never sheds.
I do sometimes wonder if we bought the spawn of Satan though, she often has mad half hours.
