Good countrys to live in.
Any thoughts for about 3 months a year?
I quite fancy the BVI's, but it's a very time consuming process to be allowed to buy there which I suspect will play havoc with trying to get a mortgage, plus I think the deposit would be more than I could pay.
I thought about dubai, but it's not really my type of place. May very well be a good investment though..
An appartment up in the french alps, nice and cheap, good lifestyle..
BTW, I'm 25, have no ties and don't really fancy buying somewhere in britain. £150k would be about as much as I'd like to spend.
This is probably just procrastination as I'll no doubt end up buying an over priced prison, err house in the uk anyway. Humour me

What about Slovenia. I went there a few times "before the war" and it's beautiful. You can ski in the winter and the summer weather aint too shabby either. Around Lake Bled is stunning.
For a youngster like yourself it may not have the nightlife, but I understand that Ljubljana is very modern and lively.
Probably could find something for £150K there.

No doubt about it Brazil. You could have an apartment in Rio, just behind Copacabana beach for that money. Or, away from Rio, a very nice apartment by the beach for £30k-£50k.
My wife and I'll be doing that in a few years (She's Brazilian BTW)!!!!!!!!!

New Zealand would get my vote but then again, I'm slightly biased!!!!
Points system is for work permit or permanent residence so it all depends if you would be working or not. If not, just turn up get a 6 months visitors stamp in your passport.
Plus they love their scoobies down here!!!

I'm seriously considering moving to Slovakia this year if I'm made redundant which is looking very likely/imminant.
In the right area I can buy a big piece of land and have a really nice 3 bedroom house built for under £20k, with decent gardens, small orchard, veg patch, chicken runs etc. Living costs are tiny out there too, and the pace of life is much nicer.
With a house paid for outright I wouldn't have to worry about earning megabucks to pay for a huge mortgage, I'd love to own/run a small cafe (Allo Allo style ) in a small University/College town like Presov. With an endless stream of hot girls coming to buy coffee.
Plus with 20% unemployment people setting up companies there are pretty popular, and you have plenty to choose from when recruiting staff.
Does your local town centre look nicer than this?

As much as I've enjoyed south america I don't have the confidence to live there.
New Zealand sounds good, drive on the proper side plenty of imprezas, surf and snowboarding. Nice people..
I'll have to visit

Presov - eastern Slovakia. Notice the total lack of litter, lowlife scum etc, that's just a typical weekday morning.
I'd love to get a house/cafe sorted there, then spend some time contracting in the UK and the rest living over there.

Go for it then - It's a SUPERB place.
Spent 3 months there travelling - The roads were heaven (had a 2.0 Accord so just enough to enjoy them) and the surf was outstanding (we went there to surf) especially on the S Island.
People were fantastic and it snowed heavily on Xmas Day meaning people were boarding in the middle of Summer.
Surfing with a backdrop of snow capped mountains was unforgettable, as was kayaking in gorges surrounded by massive waterfalls.
In fact, back there in 2008!
