Default Reporing An Accident to your Insurer

Is there a time frame in which you must do it? I know there is a timescale in which you must report an accident to the police.

Mr White Van Man drove into the side of my mum's car on 21/12/06 and the police attended and breathalised them both. She reported it to her insurer the same day and got a quote for the damage in the first week of January (most bodywork shops were closed between Xmas and New Year) which went to her insurer.

She's rung her insurance company this morning for an update and they have said that Mr White Van man's insurance company hasn't had the accident reported to them yet by their policyholder (i.e. Mr White Van Man), some 5-6 weeks on

Surely the best advice/comments is/are going to come from your mum's insurance company? Do they expect her to go round to WVM and sort him out

I know their call centres are offshored, so she's had problems understanding them so they might not understand what she's asking

Put what you want to know in writing to them, keep a copy, and send it recorded/signed for.

they usually ask for the report within 4-6 weeks or they get a reminder and a new form sent out and a love letter from his solicitor
