You won't see defined abs until you are lean and low in bodyfat. Any normal cardio exercise will build the stomach muscles, running, cycling etc.

You don't realy "build up" your abs - Just strengthen them.
The six pack comes from low bodyfat for which you need to do cardio.
Do both ab exercises and plenty of cardio for results.

Don't bother with normal sit-ups, crunches and leg raises are better & isolate the abs better.
With proper training the abs will be there, just covered by a layer of fat, once this is removed you will see them.

Girls have to have a little "bump" otherwise they are anorexic!
Could try lower ab exercises though - Leg raises, "cycling" while laying on your back, crunches, etc - Anything where you are bring you legs in front of you.
Anything where you are bringing your upper body "up" (sit ups, etc) does your upper abs.

Upper are traditionally the easiest to develop - sit-ups, crunches etc are very good for this.
For lower abs, anything that involves raising the legs towards the torso will work the lower abs, leg raises are great.
Also keep it slow......3-4 secs raise, 3-4 secs to lower. Abs respond better than pretty much any other muscle group to constant tension.

Nobody wants to look at a woman with Peter Andre style abs, women are meant to have a little bit of fat on them, it looks nice if in proportion, unlike those fat heffers that think being 3 stone overweight is no barrier to wearing hipsters and having a bare midriff.

I don't think skinny is attractive and being fat and lazy isn't attractive either, being fit and healthy is the way forward, I think too many women let themselves go but thats just my opinion..
