Languages such as Mandarin and Arabic could be taught
An updated secondary school curriculum, offering skills and languages relevant to modern learners, has been announced.
It will give pupils "social and cultural flexibility" and a "feeling for justice and fairness", says the QCA curriculum watchdog.
The proposed changes for 11 to 14 year olds in England encourage languages such as Mandarin and topics such as global warming and the slave trade ... "
WTF does "social and cultural flexibility" and a "feeling for justice and fairness" mean to kiddies? It's all about social engineering. The loonies in charge of the asylum are definitely making themselves known now! The sooner they get voted out the better BUT will we get a party that believes in actually teaching kids useful stuff before several generations have been short changed and end up on the scrap heap???

Given a choice of learning a European (ergo useless) language, or a language from an up and coming part of the world (in terms of economic development), I know what I'd go for.
Correction - the European languages are still useful, but probably not as useful as Mandarin/Japanese etc.....

If we could get them to leave with a proper understanding of basic mathematics and spoken/written English, we'd be better to try that first.
