Default Ipod use as a hi-fi - anyone use it???

Does anyone use their I-Pod as their main Hi-Fi in their living room?

and if so what speakers do you use?

been thinking of this myself (i know nowt about ipods)
but maybe makes sense i.e. loads of storage capacity and compact.

Yes

I have a DENON s101 that is a dvd /tuner,cd and ipod allin one machine. Its more to do with how to copy over the music. I do "like for like " and dont compress it etc . The files are bigger but the quality is fine. I use Denon(mission) speakers and a subwoofer. I am also this week hooking up my ipod to work in the lancdcruiser. Fancy having 40gb of greast music rather than the car glove box etc full of cds !!

The secret of the ipod is to use the cradle output rather than the small male plug.

I dont have an I-pod but I have an equivelant spec Creative Zen.
I connect it to my old hifi seperates amplifier and use it as a juke-box. Works fine for me.

All the hifi buffs will be along in a minute saying how inferior the sound quality is when you compare MP3 format to CD`s, but for me and my cloth ears, it sounds fine.

Depends on what you mean about using at as a hi fi.

givent the nominal output from a pod, it wont drive much more than the current doc stuff you see now, which ranges from crap, to not bad..

if you want to drive speakers it depends on what you want...

My pod links into my home setup via a headphone out lead to phono plugs.

this goes into a spare aux input on my amp...

its then driven through my main hifi,

Kenwood AV amp

Tannoy 611 mains

eltax compact sub.

RTl centre

Eltax bookshelf rears..

does the job for me

I take my Sony HD 20Gb to France and play it through the HiFi there. I also have it on through a set of powered Sony speakers I bought years ago, when working in the barn conversion.

It works well enough for me, saves doubling up on CDs or transporting my favourites to France

most tend to use the jack for the output. DONT! the docking station is far superior and can cost less than £15.00 on ebay

I've sat in on blind tests of original CD source vs 192kb mp3 and with my ears, it was almost impossible to tell the difference with non-audiophile recordings.

yes,but if you where blind how did you know they did carry out the test correctly? Also you could have been in the wrong room. I think the blind have a right to work etc. but why this type of work. whats wrong with them been traffic wardens etc~?

I use my iPod with a set of AE Aego sat + sub speakers all the time now. The convenience far outweighs the superior sound quality of my hi-fi. In fact, I haven't used the hi-fi (Naim, Arcam, B+W) for months and will be putting it on eBay soon.

I'm getting one of those i-deck jobbies cheap soon, so will report on it later. It's made by monitor audio as mentioned.

We do. We bought a dandy little gadget from Argos for £39.00 to sit it in with a remote and hooked it up to our sound system. Brilliant !
Who needs Bose ?
