Glass of Orange juice every morning
Apple mid morning
Bananna with my sandwich at lunch

So that's 3 a day guaranteed.

Just depends on what I have for Tea. If it's somehting quick (something with chips) then that's all the fruit & veg I'll eat all day. Unless you call Oven chips as 1 portion.
Roast dinner is another few portions etc

I wouldn't eat fruit just for the sake of it, if I wasn't hungry.

Have you seen the latest ones that come in a little pot, like yoghurt? I can't remember what they're called, Essentials or something. There's a sad reflection of today's rushed society.

Yup - minimum of 5 every day. Banana with brekkie, home made pot of salad with lunch, assorted oranges, apples and pears to munch on through the day and a portion of veg with dinner.

I really notice it when I eat cr@p for a few days (Christmas, Birthdays etc). Everything "bungs up"

I also drink 2 litres of fluid each day - most of it plain water and walk briskly for a min of 1 hour per day. It's mainly through choice - I love fruit and veg - I'm wierd like that! But it's also because there's a tendancy to be overweight that appears to run in my family - and I've seen first had what it can do to you - my Mum has had an angioplasty today due to a clogged artery. I'm NOT going down that route!

I'm not a complete freak though - I also love beer, pizza, chips, chocolate etc. I don't avoid them altogether, I just have them less often.

Probably more like 10, depending what a "portion" is.

But did you notice the other day that needing to drink 2 litres of water a day has been proved to be completely unnecessary? No $hit Sherlock, i bet that rumour was sponsored by Evian in the first place....

So what exactly counts towards 5 a day? There seems to be lots of differing opinions - potatoes aren't included, but what about rice or pasta? And cornflakes/bran flakes? And aren't fruit juices supposed to be excluded as well?
Having said that, I usually manage a minimum of 3 portions.

No. I usually eat 2 pieces of fruit a day, but rarely have fruit or veggies in the evening. When I do, it's when I'm having dinner away from home.

If baked beans count, I have 3 a day, several days of the week.

Is there a pill I could take each day to give all the goodies you get from fruit and veg? As I detest cooking, I will be unlikely to ever get the full 5.

I have a berocca drink each day, but I'm not sure if that gives everything you need.

PS DBW: Too much information about the bunging up!

I eat reasonably healthily but loathe the 5 a day campaign. The ambiguity when you look into the detail so confuddling to the average consumer.

I drink 250ml of pure orange juice and it's one of my 5 a day. I drink another glass and STOP!!! Woooooah sonny that don't count for sheeet...

I eat a quarter of a handful of peas cooked perfectly - does that count? What about a pandfull of peas boiled to buggery? Or mushy peas from the chippy?

What if I put 1 banana, 1 apple, 1 kiwi fruit, 1 cabbage and 1 lettuce in a juicer and drink an Abdabz smoothie? Have I had my 5 a day?

AARRRGGGGHHHHHHH

I usually average 3 a day sometimes 5 and today will be only 1 unless beer and peanuts count as I cheer on Barca

Nah - although coconut is a fruit, the 5 a day people say it doesn't count. Also a spud isn't a vegetable apparently

PEAS i was doing ok up until then.

Juice for breakfast
a hot meal in the in-house restaurant for lunch, which usually covers 2 or 3 of the 5, if you include a salad for starters. But you dont win friends with Salads.

The original research was conducted by the WHO and it found that on average you need to take on board 2 litres of fluid per day. The bit that Evian etc don't publicise is that the majority of that 2 litres is actually contained in your food if you eat a balance diet.

Last time I looked, rice wasn't animal, neither was it little bits of rock.
I assumed both those were in the same class as potatoes (which are a vegetable by a strict definition of the word) and not counting towards your 5 a day.

Well today I’ve had:

1 apple
1 banana
2 oranges

A homemade fruit smoothie consisting of:
Strawberries
Pomegranates
Blue Berries

1 Ham & tomato, brown cob, no butter.

And tea tonight is a mouth watering – steamed cold, citrus couscous and stir fry veg. hmmm!

Yep the wife has started a new health regime

BLAH! Healthy food really doesn't have to be horrid - I go to great lengths to make healthy food interesting an appetising - couldn't be bothered to eat it otherwise!

Gillian "total freak" McKeith (sp? don't really care!) goes out of her way to find evil food to force on her victims. Granted they all need to improve their diets - but you still don't have to force down stuff you don't like in order to eat healthily!

Has anyone else noticed what a nutter she's turning into this series? Even uses a tissue round her hand when turning on taps in other peoples homes... I watch her for the pure freak factor - generally whilst tucking into something nutrious AND tasty! more enjoyable than many dodgy sitcoms....
