than it was in 1997 - in real terms, I heard this morning.

Relative to the cost of a house I'm sure its far more than 8% cheaper.

petrol was only £0.61.7p in 1997 so even the rise in fuel price is a lot more than 8%

Car Tax has risen, Fuel i'd say is at least (for me) more than 500 quid a year more. whilst insurance has not come down much despite my ageing years.

Maybe the cost of a car (in real terms) has come down. and then there is servicing and maintanance which i's say has risen with inflation

Now, hang on a minute - this is NOT a Troll post, whatever one is

This is how I get into trouble - you lot!!

It was some 'GREEN' on the News complaining that the real cost of driving is now 8% cheaper than it was in 1997 ...... no-one disputed the statement.

I am simply the messenger, do not shoot me!

Typical of some left wing tree swinging Guardian reading git who lives in central London in some crappy little bedsit next door to a tube station who says all this sh*t yet spends 6 months of the year touring europe spreading the word on saving teh planet in a 40 year old bus that was last owned by Han Solo and pumps out more crap than a Jumbo Jet over its lifetime.

sorry i'll calm meself now.

Thats OK - you are not a PLUS Member ....... I need to be VERY careful how I tread these days.

This post, if taken as Trolling by some PLUS Member, would get me BANNED -- it's something I heard this morning on the News - just throwing it open for discussion.

I bet they're not taking in to account the replacement of alloy wheels due to them getting knackered on a regular basis on our badly maintained roads!!

Dave

Income tax revenue last month was 22.5 BILLION. Highest since 1962 when the highest tax bracket was 91% - The extra revenue comes from pushing more people into the 40% bracket by not increasing allowances and bandings with inflation.

It is probably cheaper in real terms if you compare it to the amount that all the other stealth taxes have increased

Pete: I seem to remember ANOTHER aprty using the phrase, "In real terms", when THEY were desperate to cling on to power

It's actually meaningless, as we all know

PSL,

Can you tell us what the British National Debt is at the moment and how it compares with its level when your heros took power for the first time?

What do you think will happen when the IMF tells Flash, as they told Callaghan, that they will not lend us any more money?

Well, there's a worthy lesson for you:

1. Don't believe everything you hear (what else would you expect a 'green' to say?)
2. Don't spew it back out without qualifying it first.

Trouble is, because of your blind love for NL, everything you pre-fix with '1997' now gets (rightly or wrongly) labelled as a political troll. You only have yourself to blame.

Cheers
Kav

I'd like to know exactly what "in real terms" means because as far as I can tell, it's as real as it gets already, and it's just used to pad out sentences or justify without explanation.

If the gov stopped giving all our money away to 3rd world countries and charities then the UK could be a much better place and flash wouldn't need to borrow off the IMF.
