Basmati is best, 10 mins or so then strain, and whilst it's in the sieve, pour freshly boiled water over it to remove any remaining starch.

Wash it first to remove the starch which will become evident when the water remains clear. Use an equal amount of water e.g 1 cup of rice/1 cup of water and leave until cooked. Don't stir as this makes it mushy.

Better off using a steamer though.

Buy those microwave packets, it comes out perfect every time! I've never been able to cook rice properly. I tried it in the steamer and it was OK, but took ages.

Put rice in sieve, rinse in cold water, put in suitably sized saucepan (with lid), add boiling water and a pinch of salt, bring back to boil and reduce to a steady simmer. Put the lid on. Boil for 10-12 mins (depending on rice type, check the packet), stir occasionally, and check it doesn't boil dry. Do not overcook it.

Drain rice in sieve, pour over boiling water fro a kettle to rinse away excess starch, fluff with a fork, and serve

I was always taught two cups of water to one rice.

Can steam it but it takes sodding ages. That sort is fine, though make sure it has a rice bowl with it. Much quicker to boil it.

If i have the time, I always steam rice as it comes out much nicer - bang it in the rice bowl in the steamer and it takes about 25-30 mins.

I've done that for years and you get perfect rice everytime. Start with something decent like Basmati though.

I also add a stock cube to the water while it's cooking - or sometimes mushrooms and/ or chopped spring onions to give it a bit of flavour.

My favourite is Jasmine rice.

1. Do you need a pan with a lid that has a hole in it to let the steam out?
2.What about microwaving it?

spot on.
I got mine from a chinese market about 20 years ago...and it is still going strong today
Pop in the rice, add water, put lid on, click the button for cook. 20 mins later rice is done and the button flips to warm. Keeps the rice all fluffy for as long as you want.
job done

To cook rice in pan (my way)

Put kettle on!

Get a pan with lid (hole or no hole)

Put rice in pan (wash it if you must) wait for kettle to boil

Pour water from kettle into pan about twice as much as you have rice possibly a bit more so the rice doesn't stick.

Bring to the boil and give it a quick stir.

Reduce heat to a slimmer put lid on.

Don't not touch it or stir it, cook for as long as the instructions say -(minus)a couple minutes.

Drain and serve.

the best way to cook rice so it comes out "fluffy" and not stucktogeter and stodge is to simply put a table spoon of olive oil into the water boil as normal, keep testing the rice as its cooking, i cant remember how long it takes, ill ask lianne when i get in tonight
