Default Do you have NTL:Telewest/Virgin Media ?

Sky have put their prices up for their basic channels and it looks like Virgin Media have decided its a no go.

Statement released to us at Virgin to tell you is that Sky have picked up their ball and gone home !

its been going on for a while now. Don't think Virgin Media have a lot of choice but go with it. Otherwise they will lose so many customers.

That advert looks to me like it's Sky that's got the wind up, not Virgin.

Considering what's ON Sky1, I'd not be sorry to see it go, I watch Sky Sports more often. I only really put Sky1 on for The Simsons, and they ALL seem to be repeats now

Often, they are repeats of one I saw less than a week ago, so it shows that the programmers at Sky don't give a toss either

The Simpsons isn't the only good programme on Sky One,what about the people who like Battlestar Galactica,Lost,24,The Dresden Files,Bones,Nip/Tuck etc should they lose out.

If Virgin/NTL loses sky 1 then I would not stay with them. All of the other channels I watch are available on Freeiew.

It's just been on the radio, talks have broken down between Virgin & Sky, so looks like no SkyOne etc for NTL customers.

Time to get Torrenting I'm afraid.

TBH, I'm thinking of junking the entire thing. i can get most channels i watch via Freeview anyway.

Will miss the footy though, but I'm not paying £52 a month for that.

I do tbh but not everyone is comfortable doing that (plus i get phone,tv and internet via NTL) IF they drop the price of the packages then i won't be too annoyed but the question is will they?

i would expect that its sky forcing more money from telewest (virgin don't own ntl its the other way round.. they bought virgin mobile) and telewest not finding it feasable to keep the channels

Time to do a bit of reseach on whats on freeview.

Sky is 1 of the most common channels on in my place. No sky 1 no NTL. I think NTL are expensive anyway (but are the best in my area), but that will take the biscuit

If I were to cancel my Telewest contract and go to sky would Telewest (Virgin) cut the supply to my house or could I still recieve freeview channels?

They would cut the servie to your Smart card, the one in the set top box. If you can get channels without it you'd be fine... saying that they will come and collect the box too

Just phoned Virgin media to confirm.

"....As from March the 1st you will not be able to receive Sky one, Sky news or Sky sports news."

Will there be any discount on what I am paying since I am losing on of my main watched channels? " ....No sir."

Vheers mate, that's made the decision for me.

Sky for the living room, freeview for the spare room

Just spoken to an engineer (had to replace my digi box) and this V+ seems to be the problem as it enables Virgin media customers to go back and watch (for nothing) programmes they've missed whereas Sky won't/can't do this.

This is what a Virgin media engineer told me.

You dont pay for Sky 1 on NTL anyway ? it's part of the free pack if you have the phone line so how are you better off with freeview ?

Dont you people trust me ?? I work for Virgin Media

heres the email I got

Thanks to Sky, their basic channels, like Sky One and Sky News are disappearing from Virgin Media's service soon. It looks like they've picked up their ball and gone home.
We've been involved in talks over the last few weeks to keep hold of these channels for our customers.
But Sky's demands have been so unrealistically high that keeping them would have meant asking our customers to pay the kind of increase that is simply unfair.
We believe Sky want to deliberately limit customer choice and force consumers into switching service.

So where does this leave us on the cancelling service front? I took out a TV package to include Sky One they are no longer going to supply the package I pay for, can I cancel my contract without incuring penalties?
