long story short bought a transit for towing on saturday monday morning i walk outside and its been smashed in the rear damaging rear light area and creasing quarter panel deffo write off only R reg van, very luckily the car that hit it was still behind and the women left me all her details and admited liability
popped over to my insurance company filled out forms next day i had a transit hire van delivered so well happy
assessor is coming out monday so all good so far within a week the assessor would of already seen the van
ok so a months worth or hire van @ £55 per day theyre paying, it could even be up to 6 weeks i dont have to give the van back until receive a cheque
ok the vans damage is light and if a new light replaced and a little pulling about its totally useable so im hoping for the salvage to be retained by me
heres the thing, is it possible for me to negotiate with the other insurance company once the assessor has seen it and offer to return the hire van earlier for a agrred settlement etc, ie saving them probably a grand in hire van fees, considering the van it absalute max value £1000 im considering trying my luck and asking for £800 inc salvage rights
possible or not possible?
or shall i just wait and keep the hire van and negotiate when they more than likely try to offer me £500 and we argue for a few days to get price up

I've negotiated a few insurance claims (it's what I do ).
This depends on the company concerned - most will have an agreed contact with a hire company and be quite rigid - no cash offer re this. The more sensible ones will negotiate, but only pay about half of the bill (difficult to negotatiate since you can only estiamte the likely hire period.
Worth a phone call though - speak to a team leader.

I have... crashed up the bum of someone and they wanted to write me off... I said how ridiculous so they paid me 600, I repaired her, and my insurance carried on
