Further to my other thread what do people think of Tunisia? Anyone know much about the weather this time of year? Doesn't look that hot from what I can see.

I went in Feb 1992 to Hammamet. Didn't much like the place as the locals bothered us all the time. One guy even asked if he could have some of my hair wax!
All the locals look like the illegal immigrant types we know and love over here.

Hi,
Went there in May '04. We went to Tunis, then on to Djerba, a very nice island in the south with a road connection to the mainland.
In May the weather is very ambigous and by this I mean that we had temperatures ranging form 10ºC to 45ºC over the 2 weeks we were there!
It rained, we had 2 sandstorms and the beaches were in a bit of state to be honest.
The food is ok, but then if you like the local (I mean REAL local) then you will like it.
If you like the desert and the Arab mentality and have a LOT of patience, then it is for you. Don't go with high expectations, just go with the flow.
Also if you go to Djerba it is close to the Lybian border, and as things are ver calm now, it is worth a go. The Lybians are very hospitable and they need foreign money and it is worth it while Kaddafi is still alive as he keeps the order!

We went to Sousse in 2001. When we went into the local medina (walled market) it was a nightmare. Every turn someone else was trying to flog you gold/leather goods/plates, it got on our nerves in the end so we didn't bother visiting again
However, Tunis was very nice with no bothering whatsoever. It's a much more 'Westernised' so you're left alone. We also visited El Cem which was really interesting. They later used it as the model which they based the fight scenes in Gladiator on

We went to Port el Kantoui about this time in 99, weather wasn't much hotter than UK and we even ended up buying jumpers at one point because it poored.
Like everyone said, you'll get lots of grief from the locals. It's part of the experience in the medina, but when it's in your hotel lobby it's not much fun.
Have to say though, it was an experience that I certainly do not regret, and with the amount of travelling we did, heading south into the Sahara etc it was a good holiday, just not one I'd do again

Get over yourself since the terrorist attacks there are more police than civilians in Sinai now. There will not be a bombing in Sharm/dahab for many years.

Oh and another thing, my then girlfriend and I visited a local market. Ended up trying to walk as far away from each shop/stand as possible as the locals literally manhandled us into their shop.
One guy distracted me for a moment to show me some rugs whilst his colleague had his arm around my ex with his hand stroking her breast!![EEK!](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Dirty leather face twet!

Another here that wouldnt go back.
Even in the hotel the manager was trying it on with my wife.
Had a massive argument in a shop as they charged my credit card 10 times what it should have been. And it was meant to be the largest department store they had, not a back street hole.
NEVER EVER AGAIN ! NEVER ..........
Antigua is worth an extra £3,000 never mind the £1,000 you paid. Have a great holiday.

Went to Sousse in 2003, found the beaches great and the people OK.
A few things to do, Clear Blue seas very nice. (Pirate Boat trips, a zoo off sorts, desert Cammel rides, Go and see the Star Wars set etc)
Some of the towns are rough looking and you can get hassled a lot.
Our 5 Star Hotel was terrible, closed down for refurb the following year.
All of us had upset stomachs, and i mean really bad.
Would not go back, my parent stayed there in a four start hotel but it was a new build built with American $. They had a great time, good food, payed peanuts for it, really p***ed me off..
Avoid it if you can or make sure the Hotel was built in the last 10 years.
Maybe leave it 20 years before going, maybe OK then..
