Default Sky digibox turns into freeview ?.

Just wondered if there is anyone who can help with this one.
I have been led to believe that if I (or anyone else) cancels their sky subscription then the digibox reverts into a freeview box, can anyone out there confirm this .
If it does is it still recieveing the feed through the dish or does it need a tv aerial feed.
I only ask as I'm thinking of cancelling my sky subscription, would like sky + but they don't seem willing to give it out for free ( even if you have been paying the best part of £40 every month for the last 7 years !
However, I don't have a working tv aerial so am just wondering if indeed i will have to invest another aerial or not ?.

Help please .

Mark.

You need a £20 one off sky card.

Works with existing box and dish.

You will need to phone up for a 'free to air' card, AFAIK you don't phone Sky for it though, but they will give you the number FTA cards are free unless it's changed since I worked for Sky

My card once out of subscription lasted about two years on just freeview channels. Now it doesn't work at all.
Not bothered renewing it as I have a freeview box built into the new 43" Plasma.

I cancelled my Sky contract last week, it doesn't get cut off for another 3 weeks but when I asked I was told mine would revert to Freeview afterwards.

My sister has just got Freesat set up as shedoesnt get strong enough signals for normal freeview, but it doesnt get all the freeview channels. Notable exceptions are E4, More4 and a few of the discovery channels which my parents get on their freeview box.

I cancelled mine last year, you do not need a new card, it automatically reverts to freesat. trust me on this one. The only gripe is that you get over 100 channels still, however finding them in all of the existing ones is a nighmare. Also you will find that there will be something you want to watch and you select it and it gives you the annoying message saying you need to subscribe.

I've got one of the early Grundig boxes and a mate of mine has the same one.
After posting this thread he then ( a tad late ) tells me when he cancelled Sky he was told the Grundig box will revert to freeview with nothing else needed, typical !

On another note, has anyone ever had any joy getting a deal out of Sky for being a loyal customer ( i think 7 years is quite loyal ).
Would upgrade to Sky + but don't see why I should have to pay the extra cash that they want ( that's the tight old git in me coming out ).
Think they have made enough out of me over the years to be able to waiver any charges .

When my LNB died I phoned up SKY and they wanted £65 to come and repair it. I tried to get it done for free by asking for cancellations, once at cancellations they'll try to keep you with free stuff I don't need but with me they wouldn't reduce the call out fee. I then mentioned SKY+ and I haggled them down to £80 fitted. So in the end I upgraded to SKY+ for £15

Is it really a "one off" charge? When I bought my freeview card I'm sure it was supposed to last a minimum of two years but there was no mention of it being a "one off" payment
