Default Roat tax question

My last few cars have been bought online from dealers and the garages have taxed them for me without having my insurance.
The car i'm picking up this weekend needs taxing and the dealer said he can't do it without my insurance (which i asked admiral to send direct to the garage but it came to me today) - i can't get my certificate to the garage in time so i'm stumped.

Does anyone know how garages can tax a car for a customer without adding themselves to the logbook?

Is there not a local van delivery service. I sent a 10 litre box of wine to a friend who lived 50 miles away. Cost me £5.00. Might be worth looking into or getting to the garage really early on Saturday so they can tax the car. Post offices are open on Saturday mornings until 12 I think

The other alternative is to go to a local to the dealer post office and tax the car yourself. Would need to be walking distance though, as driving off the forecourt untaxed is technically an offence.

Or ask the dealer if someone is willing to make a trip to the post office on saturday am once you get there.

If he's a proper dealer, then surely he can tax the car using his Trade insurance, i'm sure how it;s been done for me in the past!

couple of options, get your insurance company to send a cover note directly to them and get it taxed, (obviously not possible if you are picking up this saturday).

if its a main dealer they will be able to provide 7 day drive away insurance where a cover note is e mailed to the dealer and they can print it off and get someone to tax it before you get there and re imburse them on saturday.

get the sales person to drive you to the post office before you drive away(either in your new car with trade plates or their one).

tax it online, but not realy sure how that works.
