Renting a car overseas - driving license question?

Renting a car overseas - driving license question?
I'm off to Slovakia on Thursday, and am renting a car when I get there. I'm renting from a small (cheap) local type rental place rather than a big company like Hertz, Avis etc.
Do I need to take both parts of my driving license, or is the photocard part ok for renting a car overseas? I really don't want to have to take the paper part too if I don't have to - more crap to drag around and potentially get lost.
Anyone?

i can see where your coming from with not carrying every bit of "may need" items
but if i were you i would take both,
cause you'll feel a bit of a twonk if you need the other part when you get there and you dont have it ....
