Dont be ******* ridiculous. You think someone spending £20-30-40k car really cares about £300 a year road tax? OK its not nice paying for it but its not exactly a massive dent in the savings.

While it probably won't affect new sales, expect the Bang G cars to get scrapped earlier in their lifecycle when previously they would have gone on for many years. Once they are down to £3-4K people are less likely to be interested in buying one unless they have a very real need for them.

Conversly for the second hand buyer its a beauty. The same thing has been happening with big engined thristy car for ages, since fuel prices got silly. You can pick up a bargain if you go for a Jag, Beemer or Merc. This will only serve to compound it.

Of course, if you own a small engined super mini, you are laughing, because the residuals will be fantastic.

Hence it needs to be a fuel based tax.

Then people moan about the price of petrol etc etc

Agreed,
Last time I went to an auction, the small engined super mini's were going for silly money, and the big band G cars were near enough given away. I'm just a bit pi55ed that my A3 is taxed the same as a fuel guzzling monster. So come my next car change I may as well make the best of it and buy something that only does 18mpg rather than 28-30......

Well done Gordon.

Cheers for that response davegtt, don't hold back there.

I have a 54 Landrover Discovery because I choose to, it's on a budget the same as the Impreza.

I'm not one of these people who can easily afford a 20-30-40k motor, why because I stupidly plow money into the Impreza....why do I bother.

When I take the trouble to post something on this site, to gain other people's feedback, I do it to find out other peoples views on the subject, not to have abuse & ridicule aimed my way.

thanks again dave

Exactly that whats pissed me off with this. How the **** can those idiots charge a person in a 2000cc audi A3 as much as some twa t in a 5000cc 2 tonne gas guzzling monstrosity

I say they should add some extra teirs so that SUV drivers get hit even harder

I think that they have screwed the figures up - Its set too low in my eyes - In my eyes Band G should start at 255 or 260.
Think a few manaufactors will be massaging their figures to get cars into a lower banding !
Do Band G drivers get a badge that says "hey I'm paying double the road tax so get 50% off fuel and or exclusive use of lane 2 / lane 3 on a motorway "

Audilover spends 300 on a pair of shoes yet drives a Volvo S40, or is it aspires to an Audi and some 300 quid shoes ?

No bloke should ever spend that much on shoes, not whilst Beer, Cars and gadgets are still available, 300 quid shoes are for Meterosexuals, those who have sex with er Austin Metro's

ONLY IF YOU BUY A 4X4 AFTER 2001

anything earlier isnt applicable to the charge per emmisions roadatax, should just be the standard road tax costs
ie 96 quid for over 1400cc and 90 quid for under

LOL. Can't believe this has turned into a shoe fetish discussion !!
