Default Second chance offers: are all dodgy?

I have just regretted taking a "Second Chance Offer" on an ebay item I didn't win. Looking back it was a con, possibly the price was bid up by a friend of the seller. Has anyone had a genuine "second chance"? I wouldn't do it again.

I like your username

I have accepted second chance offers a few times, and have ended up with IMO great prices on the items.

Luck of the drawer i suppose

Only a poor deal if you ended up paying over the odds! Most things on EBay are cheap, cheap ...

I was bidding on something and a friend of theirs bidded the item up too much. They emailed me and said the 'person' backed out and offered the item at £50 more than I was willing to pay.
I told them I was the only other person to bid on the item and that I'd take it for £120... they asking for £170. i told them to p*ss off.
They relisted it another 4 times doing the exact same thing with the same person bidding it up.
Someone finally bought it in the end.

I've only ever used a second chance offer once, I was bidding on a Seiko Watch, I was outbid by a couple of quid as i didn't have time to watch the auction end.
Anyway about a half hour later I recieved a second chance offer on it, I suspect the seller had one of their mates or similar trying to push the price up and the messed it up.
I bought it anyway but at my price.

I use them sometimes - if I've got more than 1 of something I'll send out 2nd chances to any bidders who were over what I'm prepared to sell for.
