Just a thought, but does anyone know where the different SatNav companies get their road info from?

I guess that somewhere there's a list of things like weight restictions (e.g. for bridges), height restrictions (bridges, tunnels, etc.), A, B, C road designations, and so on?

Only wondering as it would be nice not to have to explain to drivers of large articulated lorries that:

1) yes it really is a single track in places,
2) no you can't turn round anywhere,
3) yes it will take a while backing that up to anywhere you can turn round,
4) which bit of "unsuitable for HGVs" is difficult to understand?,
5) yes, I did hear about the girl in the Merc who blindly followed her SatNav directions into a river - aren't you lucky you didn't copy her!?

Navteq and TeleAtlas are the 2 big mapping companies and they have teams of people who drive around getting data.

Don't know where they get it from but mine told me to turn left when I was half way over a bridge the other month...

Then wouldn't shut up for a while when I refused to turn around and go back to the so called turning... lol
