Default Bed advice

Right, our mattress is shot. Obviously cos I'm a fat basket!!

Been looking at a new Pocket Spring mattress, however not sure whether we can re use our sprung divan. Nothing seems to be wrong with it, so can i just buy a mattress?

Cant help with the bed, but saw your location and wondered if you could help?
A few months ago, I emailed Marillion through their website to ask whether it was too late for Fish to say he was sorry to Kayleigh or not as it had been on my mind for over 20years.
I received a standard reply promising me an answer but never got one...
So MattW... Was it too late and did it prove that Fish was wrong?

Yes you can just replace the matress. If you can run to it, go for memory foam (viscose) either solid or combined with springs. It will run to £500 or more, but it's worth every penny. Dreams do them, but you'll probably do better if you show about.

Get a 'Tempur' mattress. I nearly keighed when wifey told me she wanted me to spend 1100 quid on one, but we have had it for a couple of years now and it is far and away the best mattress I have ever slept on.

Hi Matt. I bought a tempur*/pocket sprung mattress from Dreams (near Mannington roundabout) last year and it's superb. It wasn't cheap mind, but a decent one should last a few years. IIRC mine was summat like £700, but they had cheaper and more expensive versions there too.

*Tempur are a seperate brand who patented the memory foam idea, but most manufacturors do their own memory foam versions for a lot less than Tempur charge if you buy direct from them.

Edit: You can get different types of mattress btw, some which no extra reinforcing and must be used on divan beds only, and others which can be used on beds with frames/slats etc. A lot of mattresses these days can be used on either though, as is the one I bought.

Cheers for the mattress related replies I'll take a look.

PS Iwan, went into Dreams last weekend, the "Manager" introduced himself and we took a look at a couple of beds. He promised us a good deal if we bought that day so I asked how good? He explained we couldn't have the 40 day money back guarantee or the extra 10 year warranty, but would be prepared to knock off £30 !! Suffice to say I walked out.

I got a King size mattress - 2000 pocket springs with a layer of memory foam on top.
Fantastic nights sleep - nice and firm... which is what I like
Set me back £700 though - but IMHO is worth it.... !!!

Is funny, people will spend tens of thousands on their cars that they perhaps spend an hour a day in but scrimp on a bed they spend a third of their lives on.

Get the best mattress you can afford. Think I paid about £2K for our last.

Ive got a tempour mattress, hate it. £1600 waste. If you are considering one, then I would get it from Tempur and take up their 60 day free trail. I brought mine from a different store and therefore couldnt send it back. On average ,it takes 2/3 weeks to get use to a tempur. 4 months for me, and I still get up during the night and slept in the spareroom, on the pocket sprung mattress there.

For me, go for the pocket sprung option. Plenty of good deals on the net, so find the one you like, then search via the net.

The previous post is correct. I spent £2.5K on a new mattress and base, as the tempur mattress must be on a hard base. The way I see it, if I get 2 /3 years then its a good deal.

Sorry a bit late adding to this thread, you could buy a cheapish mattress and then get the memory foam topper, depending on your funds this will give you the benefit of memory foam without the cost

Funds not an issue, just want to be sensible. Rather like a Sleepeezee Backcare Luxury mattress, may get a memory foam for the spare room to see what they are like.

And yet a £200 futon mattress is better for your back.
