This is a brave decision - the knives will be out for it (no pun intended)
as the original was a classic!

The original was the first proper horror film I ever watched, had me scared sh!tless for some time after and the feem tune still brings a shiver to my spine.
The re-make will have to be something special to top the first one for me

Maybe, maybe not.
I'm a big fan of the original and the primary reason it was so good was that they were on a shoestring budget so the fundamentals like the camerawork had to to inovative and effective to shock. The risk is that the new one gets a bigger budget and they take the lazy Holywood approach of just relying on gore and SFX.
However, there are a number of things going for this remake.
1) It's not just a re-telling of the original: some of the film is a prequel, so we get an insight into Myers as a child. That should make for interesting viewing
2) Also, the remake portion itself is looking as dark and nasty as the original: Rob Zombie said that in typical horror film fashion, the sequels became less scary as the characteristics of the original film were lost and Myers become the "hero" rather than a scary villian. He said he intends to make him much darker! I was a little concerned when I heard Rob Zombie would be at the helm, but after seeing the interview, at least he understands the original film.
3) Apparently John Carpenter has given the film his blessing!
This could do to Halloween what New Nightmare did to the Nightmare on Elm Street series!
Let's hope so!
