Default Churchill and thier "Guarantee"

Got an email from Churchill this morning.

The title was "Churchill Price Guarantee for Impreza Drivers."

They then went on, that for a ike for like insurance, they gurantee to beat my renewal quote - Just like on the telly.

So I went through thier online quote system. And they were out by £100. Plus they insisted ona tracker, which my current insurerer does not. So I have sent them a mail back..

Hi,

Many thanks for your email inviting me to obtain a quote "Guaranteeing" to beat my renewal quote.

Unfortuantely, once I had obtained a quote online - I found that Churchill didn't even come close to matching my renewal, let alone beat it.. Churchill also insisted on a tracking device before insuring me for theft, which my current insurer will gladly do without such a device.

Not overly impressed with the guarantee to be honest. I mean, it's a bit like Tony Blair "guaranteeing" there are WMD in Iraq. Or Sven Goran Erricsson "Guaranteeing" England would win the World Cup. All very nice in principle, but not going to happen really.

Here's one...

"I will not be using Churchill insurance unless they lower thier quote by £100 and remove the necessity for a tracking device to be fitted to my vehicle before they will cover me for theft"

Now *that's* a guarantee..

Kindest Regards

PeteBrant

I wonder if they will reply.

You do have a point but they wont reply because the overall valid content of your email will be over shadowed by the ficisious tone.

Talking

....aah, that will be in your opinion of course

Surely a person deemed a 'hoot' would have at least replied with a witty retort to back up his social prowess claim......

Alas

To be fair, I felt a facetious reply was called for, given that they guaranteed to beat my renewal, and then spectacularly failed to do so.

These "guarantees" are usually valid and they will quote £1 below your current premium. Then they will stuff you next year and you will have blown any goodwill with your current insurers.

I assume you tried to be "Quoted Happy" too?

Or perhaps not...........

Alcazar

I've rung them several times on their free number and refused to give them any more info than that my car is a saloon and red.

They don't seem to see the funny side

Quite. And they always have the get out clause of it not being like for like. For example they might say : Hey, but look, we offer £35,000,000,000,000 of personal liability cover with our policy, whereas you curren tone only offer £1,000,000. Of course, they likelyhood of you ever needing cover to such an extent is practically zero, but hey, we have to justify our guarantee being worth sod all somehow

Actually I haven't tried them yet. I might do so, just for the laugh, like.

I tried them for my last renewal. Online quote was way more expensive than my renewal with Privilege, so as instructed on the web-site, I rang the 0800 number.

After sitting in a queue for the 20 odd minutes, I gave up

It gets better.

According to A-Plan, whom I am just trying to get a quote out of, all Subaru's sold in this country before 2004 were imports.

Try Subaru Insured - they're pretty good, and definitely know the product at least....

Apparantly so.

Can't wait to feel the extra 60BHP from my UK turbo on the way home tonight. Not to mention having fun with my the electric folding mirrors and rear windscreen wiper my car will have sprouted.

I rang one of those numbers on the back of a lorry the other day, you know the sort that says "Well Driven?". Well the lorry was being well driven, the driver was adhering to the speed limit and staying within the lane and indicating when he made his turns. Strangely, the lady at the call centre didn't seem interested about any of this and she hung up on me
