SMOKING BAN - So it begins.....
There seems to be some confusion over the law surrounding the ban, the BBC have just posted this article, which is interesting in a sad pathetic and dull type way
That's very kind of them
And if caught:
So if you DO smoke REMEMBER to always say you're a thespian the worlds your stage, and you're on a day trip from the local nut house and if they still insist on arresting you ask if they can take you to Scotland to be interviewed
Smoking solo
A workplace requires more than one person to work there for the ban to apply. So the cab of a lorry becomes a workplace if it is used to carry a passenger. The Road Haulage Association says this amounts to a blanket ban because a second driver is required to conduct testing, and that might only be twice a year.

Company Cars
Similarly, company car drivers must adhere to the ban if they share their car with any colleagues. Owners who give a lift to a workmate should comply, says Jeremy Bennett, editor of the website Company Car Driver. And several companies which lease fleets of vehicles that are used by third parties have already introduced the ban and put the "no smoking" stickers on the dashboards.

At Home
People will not be penalised for smoking in their own homes, even if this exposes others to second-hand smoke, including health visitors, nannies, cleaners and tradespeople.

Smoke on stage
But actors and comedians onstage will be allowed to light up for the sake of the "artistic integrity of a performance", unlike in Scotland.

Police Interview Rooms
Police interview rooms are exempt in Scotland but not in England. And hotel rooms are not automatically smoke-free.

Nut Houses
Residential psychiatric institutions in England can have a smoking room for one year but must impose the ban from 1 July 2008.

Smoke Police/Brown Shirts
People caught smoking by local authority enforcement officers will be fined £50, reduced to £30 if paid within 15 days. But, if the case comes to court, the fine could rise to £200.

Yeah right I can see people stopping smoking in cars company or other wise.
As for gigs we'll see. Wembley areana is supposed to me no smoking, seen that rule flouted.

Hello
There should of course be a total ban on smoking even in ones home. It is damaging to health and the environment. The polution from the cigarette smoke and the tab ends which are duly deposited up and down our lovely country is appalling. THIS MUST END, THERE ARE BETTER MORE HEALTHY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY WAYS OF PASSING ONES TIME.
Warm Regards

So, ban ciggies and you make 25% of the population a criminal. This will also result in a massive black market for illegal ciggies and just wait for the ensuing crime wave.
Also, the country would go bankrupt because of the overnight loss of £9 billion per annum in duty on ciggies. Which, amongst other things, funds the NHS.
Great idea, well thought out.
Hahahahaha, stop it, you're making my sides split.

Was back in Wales last weekend. I'd forgotten that the smoking ban is already in force there. I have to say it's fantastic that I don't have to wash clothes after wearing them once on a Saturday night any more. I could also smell women's perfume, I can't ever remember that in a pub before.

I heard the next thing they are going to ban is pointing at things in a public place and talking with your mouth full... Who knows where it may end?

Do these council tax inspectors turn up with a warrant? Can you deny access at the first juncture without being sent to jail forever and ever, till your dead?

I'm hoping that's the next thing they ban, stop all the little tarts from bathing in vile smelling potions before they go out on a Saturday night. At least my local has a dedicated smoking room with good ventilation so I'm not currently affected by smoke anyway, maybe they'll put the perfume wearers in there when the ban comes in!

I think the point is that most civilised countries haven't been so Draconian in their implementation of a ban. Including film sets and works vehicles for example. Even the anti smoking facist Bloomberg (Mayor of NY) isn't that bad.

I want to ban people from wearing clothes two nights on the bounce at weekends... I shall commence a petition...
There was me thinking that this ban was for the benefit of the nations health, when all along it's just to help students, poor people, washophobics and hippies pad out their washing

The health benifits are a given, it's so obvious that it doesn't need mentioning.
