Cool Version

The long awaited Mark Ronson album has finally arrived.

Anyone else bought or downloaded it yet? What do you think? I love it for a few reasons.

I know it's possibly a bit sophisticated for the typical Scoobynet member, but I thought I'd ask all the same.

Wife bought it.

Poor mixes of some fine original songs with too much brass in there for my taste.

Weak covers of the Radiohead and IIRC the Charlatans song.

Nice if you like that sort of thing but a bit lacks any edge IMHO

Too hear someone covering something properly check out Ray LaMontagne's version of Gnarls Barkley's Crazy

I reckon it's a pretty diverse, genre-spanning selection myself

Indeed. I'd agree with that.

As I expected though, way too sophisticated for the usual meatheads on here to be able to understand.

Irony in itself.

Reworked music, hit with the bland stick, then labelled 'sophisticated'

Just you then. We're obviously all just not sophisticated enough to appreciate it. Either that or you just like to be "different".

popping out @ lunch to pick it up (mainly on the basis of 'Here comes the Fuzz') ...along with the Artics

Seeing as we're on a musical appreciation thread ...anyone else got the Klaxons album?

If I may expand a little on my reason for labelling this crap as crap.

The choice of covers .....

Why oh why oh why do you take at least 5 utterly classic songs, add a bit of mellowness and some horns and expect them to sound better than the original

Valerie - The Zutons
Oh my god - Kaiser Chiefs
Pretty Green - The Jam
Only One I Know - The Charlatans
Just - Radiohead

These in my unsophisticated opinion are songs of true genius that should NOT be touched under no circumstances, nope, never, nada, nought DO NOT DO IT

To someone from planet Zorb who didn't know of the originals then they might like this wishy washy rehash but to the less sophisticated earthlings.....errr nope

Personally see it as a musical insult but appreciate how the sophisticated few may like it

There

On the contrary I think the originals of all those songs (with the possible exception of the Charlatans) were rubbish. Mark Ronson's rearrangements have lent some dignity and class to otherwise boring and best forgotten material. Nowhere is this more evident than on Toxic.

As for – there's too much brass for liking – you might as well say “there's too much musicianship for my liking” or, “where have all the losers bashing out endless bar chords on their guitars gone?” - for these refer back to the originals, or the Arctic Monkeys

Ah, look who's turned up. Good old doggybreathed spider thingy. A bit late to the party but never mind, he follows me around this board like a lost puppy (I think I must intrigue him).

Too bad he is wasting his time though as he's been on my ignore list for several months. You might have thought he would have taken the hint by now, but he never was the sharpest tool in the box....

Anyway, not doubt he is posting to congratulate me on my excellent choice for possible album of the year, so I guess he at least deserves my thanks for that. By way of a return favour, I've downloaded the lyrics to his favourite song so we can all sing and clap along:

The wheels on the bus go round and round,
round and round,
round and round.
The wheels on the bus go round and round,
all through the town.

The wipers on the bus go Swish, swish, swish;
Swish, swish, swish;
Swish, swish, swish.
The wipers on the bus go Swish, swish, swish,
all through the town.

The horn on the bus goes Beep, beep, beep;
Beep, beep, beep;
Beep, beep, beep.
The horn on the bus goes Beep, beep, beep,
all through the town..

The money on the bus goes, Clink, clink, clink;
Clink, clink, clink;
Clink, clink, clink.
The money on the bus goes, Clink, clink, clink,
all through the town.

The Driver on the bus says "Move on back,
move on back, move on back;"
The Driver on the bus says "Move on back",
all through the town.

The baby on the bus says "Wah, wah, wah;
Wah, wah, wah;
Wah, wah, wah".
The baby on the bus says "Wah, wah, wah",
all through the town.

The mommy on the bus says "Shush, shush, shush;
Shush, shush, shush;
Shush, shush, shush."
The mommy on the bus says "Shush, shush, shush"
all through the town.

UB, Track 11, Robbie Williams. I knew you'd see sense in the end.

You heard it here first folks, UB after umpteen threads slaggging off Robbie is now recommending him

Hey, I've gotta hold my hand up to that one old buddy.

Guilty as charged. Best thing he's ever done, apart from Angels.

I love all the original tracks on the album AND I love the Mark Ronson versions. Bland? No way, utterly brilliant reworkings, IMHO.
