Default How would they police this ban????

Have just heard and now read that Alcohol Concern is proposing a ban on children drinking at home.

Now, having spent a fair bit of time on the European mainland and seen the attitude to children and drinking I think that the ban would only make thjings worse here. Most European countries have a much more relaxed and "adult" attitude to drinking. Giving children wine with a meal is an education and when it is controlled is a positive measure.

"The Portman Group, set up by drinks producers which together supply the majority of the alcohol sold in the UK, said there was a case for raising the drinking age. But it pointed out that the continent does not suffer from binge-drinking issues and children there are given moderate amounts of alcohol in a controlled way."

The whole issue is that if you make it illegal, for kids and young adults, it makes it a challenge to try it.

Are vmy parental rights being challenged again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FFS they cannot even enforce speed fines, mobile phone usage whilst driving or get people into jail never mind police a ban of activities in peoples homes.

It wont go anywhere. It's a charity highlighting a perceived problem by calling for a law change. As you say it is completely unenforcable and would never get anywhere.

So no, your parental rights aren't being challenged, its just a known tactic to raise awareness.

If the present government get in again, I can forsee CCTV being installed in all homes, plus Compulsory Drug Testing for all school children.

Children in some schools have already been fingerprinted without their parents consent, so CDT is just the next step in controlling the populace and raising more stealth revenue by fining parents.

What Jerome says is of course the logical progression from an authoritarian government. I think it is more likely to be two way screens so that we can be made to watch lots of vital propaganda for our own good!

You can be sure that we will have to pay for our own compulsory screens to be installed!

With respect to the post. I think it is not sensible to allow young children to drink any alcohol at all. It will have a greater effect on them at such a young age and also will be much more likely to encourage future addiction.

I don't see how a ban could be effectively enforced, maybe the answer lies in education and a publicity campaign to let people know the dangers involved.

I think that the example of european countries is testament to education as a youth alcohol issues and appears to do no harm.

The Dutch have some of the most liberal laws on ****, prostitution etc but they have the lowest teenage pregnacy and abortion rates in the western world.

The fact the education system in the UK seems to be in a freefall to the "can't offend anyone" teachings is again an indication of how poor we are at most issues, is this a case of trying to close the gate after the horse as bolted.

I am sure that the drinking communion wine would not be banned!!!!

No government would attempt it. FFS, they can't even police the ban on SALES to under 18s, or the ban on SALES of cigarettes to under 16s.............and that's the one. If it was a possibility, why did/does no governemnt ever go the whole way and make it illegal for kids under 16 to own, or smoke cigarettes, not just buy them?

More like 50 years Swampster, but you are right anyway.

Why do we have this binge drinking and pregnancy problems with the very young in this country Blue Dragoon?
