Question Advice to a Rock Singer

I went to see my boy's band play at a gig last night. The singer stayed over with us but his voice had nearly gone by the end of the session and he was still a bit croaky this morning. I told him his voice wouldn't last 2 days on a tour and he ought to go and see someone re keeping his voice in shape. But I doubt if he will so anything else I can suggest? I also suggested he paces himself a bit but he gets so wrapped up in the music on stage that he just gives it 110% all the time.

Great venue btw - Hurtwoot Polo Club near Horsham. Anyone know it? Owned by Kenny Jones, ex-Who and Small Faces drummer.

1) Proper warm up/cool down routine (simple scales will do at a gentle volume to loosen things up)

2) learn to breath properly when singing to help balance the delivery of each line.

Vocalzones (from Boots or good chemists) - relief of hoarseness caused by excessive singing or shouting!

I'd agree with the warming up advice (if for no other reason than to sound better!) They should also start off with a few slower/easier numbers to get warmed up, then go for the ones with the louder/tougher vocals.
How long have they been going? I'd expect (unless it's shouting rather than singing) that he should get used to it.

They have been playing together for about 4 years now. But as they gain experience the sessions get longer + they are doing a lot of practice at the moment.

Good idea to warm up etc, but it sounds more like cr@p technique.

A couple of vocal coaching lessons would do him the world of good. If there's resistance to it, phrase it as technique training, not tuning training

Thanks Dan and RS (I'll reply).

I think that some coaching can only be of benefit. I'll have a word with the other band members as he'll listen to them. dl
