Talking Best 5 horror moments - The RESULTS

Movie magazine Empire is marking its 18th birthday with a list of the top 18-rated moments in film.

1 Dinner chestburster - Alien
2 Glass decapitation - The Omen
3 Wolf transformation - An American Werewolf in London
4 Crucifix abuse - The Exorcist
5 Ready Ralph? - Risky Business

WTF's 'ready Ralph' about, can't remember that scene

Thumbs up

An obvious ommission is the scene in 'Nightmares from a damaged brain' where a child sees his father (who's tied to the bed) having a mild dose of bondage administered by a hooker who is sitting astride him. The kid goes downstairs, gets an axe and returns to the bedroom. He stands behind the prossy and takes her head off in one sideways stroke. There follows a picturesque moment where her dismembered body remains upright and her unplugged arteries spray claret everywhere covering the old man. He comes down to earth with a bump at this point and frankly loses it. The kid climbs up onto the bed (dad's tied down remember), takes a massive overhead swing and plants the axe into his father's forehead neatly splitting his swede in two.

It was a video nasty so may not have qaulified on that basis.

Cheers

You obviously weren't moving in the right circles. Or maybe you were still in short trousers

It was top 18-rating moments, not horror moments Hunt you halfwit! consequently the "Ralph" moment is perfectly admissible.

I don't know mate; the idea of seeing Tom Cruise on the job is pretty horific.

I think Carie should be number one: I don't know of anyone how didn't jump out of their seat on that final scene!

FWIW I think this is one of the best scenes in an 18 rated film (Lost Highway) I've ever seen. Typical David Lynch materclass on how to engage and affect the viewer and simultaneously have them wonder "what the hell is going on!"

YouTube - Lost Highway Mystery Man at party Completely work-safe

Although not "horror" in the true sense, the knobbling scene in Misery was pretty profound in my opinion.

Ah yes greatest 18 rated movie clips...
American Werewolf scene was tremendous, then the whole fillm was/is...Hmm Jenny Inagutter
Porkys shower scene was quality - again great film...
The excorcist was grim in parts
Clockwork Orange - the tramp trampling and the rape were quite intense...

Cant think of anymore right now, its Friday afternoon and I am suffering from too much blood in my alcohol stream...

My parents let me watch that film when I was 13, I was fooked walking through the alleyway at the end of our road in the dark for bloody years and had to do a blimmin great detour

When I was 18 I realised it was a comedy

(It's now one of my favourites )

One of the scenes that gets me every time, is in Serpent and teh Rainbow when he is in the police station, and the officer has him tied to a chair, and has a hammer and a bag of nails

OUCH !!!!!

for me some of the moments in the saw films, are modern classics. ive admittedly got a profound imagination, and think up some horrific images sometimes, but hats off to these guys, they know their torture and horror scenes.

the opening scene in saw III was particular to this. the guy coulcnt even saw his foot off. he actually had to bludgen himself with a blunt object to snap it off.... ewwww gruesome . especially when you sat eating chicken and tomato basil pasta. mmm
