How would I rip music from the radio? Does it have to be live radio as I know Radio 1's website allows you to listen to past shows.
Thanks!
Nick.

I've taping dance shows from radio 1 for years. Not really into the tape thing anymore so I wouldn't mind having them on cd.
I know that you can record vinyl onto cd. All you need is a lead with 2 phono plugs on one end and a 3.5mm jack on the other. The phonos go into the mixer and the jack goes into the microphone socket of your pc/laptop. Using recording software you can record the music using software (you normally get this installed on your pc when you buy it).
I was thinking of using this method to record off the radio by sticking the phono plugs into the back of my hi-fi and using my laptop to record the sound. I don't know if it actually works as I've never got around to doing it yet.
Failing that, you could get yourself a recordable cd deck, I think they go for about £80 on ebay and you have to use special 'music' only cds to record on them.

You're right about the Radio1 website though. You can only 'listen' to the shows but can't tape them
I think I'll have a go at recording using my laptop, only I think it's been hi-jacked at the moment, grrr!

On a Mac you can use a bit of software called Wiretap that copies anything going through thre speakers into an aiff file. Import into into Itunes converting to an mp3 then use Mp3 trimmer to cut the file into chunks and name them what you want.
Sure there sdhuld be windows versions or similar available.

Thanks guys, I managed to download a copy of Windows Media Recorder that records streaming radio. What software do I need for splitting up the 1 long track into a series of tracks?

sorry i cant help with the radio 1 question, but i frequently visit a site called WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIP|EVERY DAY NEWEST DJ LIVE SETS AND DJ MIXES | WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIP. as im into my dance music and always listening out for the freshest tracks etc, lots of international djs have their own digital redio shows, that also get played out on mainstream stations to around europe etc.
one i always listen to is a state of trance, a weekly 2 hour show by armin van buuren. the site has loads of these shows, and other mixes recorded to a quality of at least 128kb/sec, some 192kb/sec. free to download to, just follow the links. i have several downloaded, and by popping them onto a mp3 cd, i can usually fit 3/4 2 hour shows onto 1 cd, and listen in my car through out the week. better than all the cheesey pop **** on galaxy etc.

Andy, I'm in to my dance/trance music as well. I listened to Judge Jules on Saturday night and it got me thinking of how I could record it to CD!
Is there any software out there that will enable me to split one long recording in to tracks, thus enabling my to skip songs?????
Thanks,
Nick.

yeah i have sonic foundtry on my pc. called sound forge 6.0
i use to to cut and crop tunes all the time to make ringtones for my mobly and stuff like that
assuming whatever you have downloaded is in a format the program understands, ie mp3., you can drop drag and put markers in etc beofre ripping to cd.
obviously if the records are being mixed in without a break between like on a normal radio station, it could sound daft, but you can also fade in and fade out etc.
never fully exploited it myself yet.
