Seeing that I sometimes have to do the Payroll (unwillingly, I may add), it does makes sense; why do the payday on the same day as every other company; offset it so you can cover for any shortfall in cashflow and the banks won't be as busy either.
Must admit, we do it weekly. So having payday every friday became a PITA; Bank's fault, as usual

My wife's a teacher, and, some years ago, teachers in this authority agreed to be paid on the LAST BANKING DAY of the month to save the authority money.
The council didn't do it to any other workers, just teachers.
Now that IS a PITA, some months have nearly 5 weeks........

I went through something similar last year.
I used to be paid on the 8th of each month, which basically means I was paid 1 week in arrears, and 3 weeks in advance.
We were then taken over by another comapny, and to conform to their pay structure, they shifted us all to the 26th. - So all in arrrears
The up shot of this was that I was paid on April the 8th, and my next payday was May 26th. Which was a stuggle.
Of course If I ever leave the company, I effectviely get that money back as I am now paid in arrears and not in advance, but it still hurt!
