Default Renting - Inventory

Is it to the tenant's advantage that no inventory was agreed and signed with the letting agent?

I'd have thought so. The agent can't say what belongs to the landlord/owner when the tenant moves out.

If it's unfurnished probably not too much of an issue as there's only things like curtains, carpets etc. that can be listed. The inventory can be used to state the condition of stuff when the tenant moved in though.

I believe it protects the tenant and landlord - at the end of the tenancy it's going to be his word against yours for the state of the property.

So what's the consensus, should I chase after this time? Unfurnished property?

If you are a responsible tenant, an accurate signed inventory fairly stating the condition of items within the property is to your advantage.

If you are planning on trashing the place, then it is obviously not to your advantage.

Some landlords are good, some not. You may get one who starts kicking up a fuss about something that was already in that condition when you moved in. The landlord then may "produce" some sort of receipt to prove it was new when you moved in.

Personally I do an inventory, and take pictures of items that have damage to agree the level of damage when I move in and out.
