Default Driving through Manchester

Picture the scene, Sunday night and the last rave of the weekend has just been left astraboyless.
driving back and I'm heading towards the M56, its three am, I've been out every night since friday and have spent 20 hours of the last 72 in a rave environment so to say I'm tired is a bit of an understatement.

However, I spot something out the corner of my eye and I do an immediate turnaround. I knew it existed, but I didnt know where it was.

Needless to say the camera comes out, and a photo is taken.

Just be thankful I wasnt pictured kneeling in front of the sign, naked, with "303" painted on my back.

A wonderful venue and a travesty that it has gone. Should have been preserved as the one club in the UK that defined a generation.

Also the scene of the best gig I ever had the pleasure to see - 24th November 1983 - The Smiths.

I still have my membership card somewhere... FAC51 -The Hacienda - cost to join £5.51

Ha ha...I was at that gig with the Smiths..Also seen Joy division,uk subs, boomtown rats and a skinny italian/american dirty called madonna there...

I couldnt believe it got sold...But drugs, guns and people getting shot every other weekend dont help.
Think the aithority refused its licsence in the end.

Well I agree, but do wonder if it is an age thing. Times change and I am reliably informed by some of the whippersnappers I know that Manchester is the muts nuts for partying.

While there is no doubt that the city centre is a much nicer place to look at I can't help but feel that some of the character has gone and the live music scene isn't what it was for sure.

I dunno, I've only been out in manchester about 5 times, but each and every time I've been there I've had the time of my life.
Mainly due to Stu Allen

Yeah like I say I'm sure it's just me and my age.

In the early 1980's I was in my early 20's and was out in Manchester all the time and being a live music fan it was a great place to be.

Got older, became more boring and the rest is history

Must admit I know of some people who work in London, but come by coach to Manchester every weekend to party so I guess you're probably right!
