Bloody hell.

Probably quite safe, unless the chimney topples over towards the crane...

I can't see why it wouldn't be safe. If the crane study gets the weights of the digger and the potential wind loadings correct, all the lifting gear is rated for carring a person and the whole thing is well controlled with 2 way radios then it should be safe enough.

I wouldn't do it though!

I'd like to see the site of the tower, as there must be some reason why you can't simply implode the thing.

To add to their already large fleet of heavies (mainly Liebherr's). The new 1000t Demag is rumoured to be coming soon. Liebherr aren't happy!

Is crane capacity like a cars power curve? It's not the peak rating, it's the spread i.e. 1000T is fine but if the lift radius increases and the load drops off too much (e.g. 25m - 1T capacity) the crane is pretty useless. So a 250T crane could be as good as a 500T unit.

Yep.

The further away from the crane, the less it can lift. A 1000t crane would never lift anything near 1000t. It's a bit like BHP pub talk

For example, to lift 30t 46m away from the centre of the crane, you would require something like an 800t capacity crane.

If it was 10m away you could use something like a 100t capacity crane.

I missed out an "n't" from my initial question! It was meant to be a rhetorical question that you've summed up perfectly, it's the area under the capacity/radius chart that is the measure of a useful crane!

Cheers
