BBC NEWS | Business | Mars starts using animal products
Mars will now be using animal products in their chocolate bars - rennet which is extracted from the stomach lining of calves will be using in their products from now on?!!
Seems like a very stupid move, and hardly good publicity - who fancies are Mars bar?!....

Any ones with expiry date pre Oct 07 should be fine for veggies; but if you brought one which you don't fancy eating, Mars will refund you..
hmmm... I suspect Mars will see a nice drop in sales, and envelopes full of chocolate landing on their front door mat..
great move MasterFoods - how long i wonder before they revert back?

Cant see how it will affect sales as veggies are malnourished pale lentil eating hippies who cant afford mars bars anyway
Seriously though I am sure a company sooo massive will have weighed up the costs saved by using calves stomach lining against the loss of hippy sales and decided it would be a good business move...

mars have been in trouble for a long time, the G/F worked for masterfoods last year and saw quite a bit of behind the scenes stuff.
the whole healthy lifestyle we all try to live now is crippling them.
the decision is probably based on cost TBH

actually this thread reminds me of a corker story
G/F was down in Reading for the year working for masterfoods, i travel down, the keys have been hidden behind the catflap or something, i dump all my gear in the bedroom and find this "milky bar croissant" thing on the bedside table.
thinking it was a gift for me i chomped that ****** down
although i did wonder why there was no english text on the wrapper ![Lol](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/lol.gif)
whoops
was quite nice tho, although i did "get wrong" for eating it when it was supposed to be eaten in controlled conditions or something PMSL
did the same with a "flyte" chocolate drink last year when the G/F went away for the weekend, found 2/3 of them at the flat, "oooo never seen these before" scoffed one, then got wrong when she came back as they were the pre production ones she helped launch and would be worth something someday LOL

So, the peanuts in a Snickers will kill people witha a peanut allergy.
Rennet is not going to kill a veggie, so what's the problem??? Wine gums have the same stuff in them too. Vive le Gordon Ramsay... he know's how to treat veggies
Check him out with Girls Aloud

So there might be a slight chance that the products may have traces of animal by products in them ?
You would probably get more meat from breathing in cooking fumes.
Sometimes I wonder whether it is actual concern for animals is at the root of it or even just revulsion at meat, sometimes I just think its a 'look at me thing', I mean, getting all upset about a meat you cant see or taste.
what about these nutters.

To be honest, doesn't sound any more bonkers to me than being a veggie or a vegan.

Another Veggie overhere (but through choice). Definitely a no go for me to buy Mars products in the future.
Very stupid move by them! Funny comments from most of you nevertheless...

There is and mostly they do not use it unless it is marked on the packet.
This is a pragmatic observation rather than a political statement as I will happily eat cheese, I just don't eat lashings of meat![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
PS Cheap tools are a false economy

I'm a veggie wierdo too but it'd take a little bit more than rennet to put me off chocolate, shame really as I'd like to be cured of my chocoholism ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
As for the meat thing, I just don't like it so don't eat it.
