Default Activity Day/ Team building weekend Europe

Hi,

I have been asked to organise an activity / team building weekend for our department at work. Budget is unconfirmed as yet.

There are 15 of us going in September. Can anyone recommend an activity or destination?

Suggestions at work have been-
Whale watching in Norway
Whitewater rafting Slovenia
Skiing (but not ski season in Europe September)
Rock climbing/ abseiling

Has one done any of these and what were your opinions??

Thanks!

Have you seen the film "Severance" ???

You might want to stay clear of Slovenia and alike

Not sure that Whale Watching is actually team building. You would think that it has to be some challenge a group of people have to face, and working as a team is the way to overcome it. I'm not sure a shared experience necessarily works as a team building exercise.

There are lots of "Outward bound" courses out there, survival training, that sort of thing. I would look into this side of things.

I've used (and moonlighted for) Quest before. Part of the organisation revolves around outward-bound type team building events.

Why do people 'build' teams by trudging through bogs and rivers!?!?

Why not just take them all to London, see a good show, then all have a cracking meal and a few drinks...

One team properly built

It is not all about trudging though bogs and eating leaves whilst being 'beasted' by ex SAS instructors (unless you want to do that).
The important thing to think about is what are the objectives of the exercise, what do you want achieve from it.
Next of course is budget
YHPM BTW!

Absolutely spot on answer

I've been on loads of team-buidling courses, sleeping in tents, stuck up mountains in p1ssing rain, girls crying, teams destroyed Utter bollox.

You need to balance the event with the dynamic of your team: if they are all smokers then it's pretty pointless getting them out in the fresh air as they will struggle. Likewise, if there are a number of the team that don't drink then the drinking sessions would be equally pointless.

Personally, I like the outward bounds stuff as I find it both a breeze and a release from being couped up in a central London office.
