I'm interested to know how forums with large communities like SN survive, do they adverts from 3rd party tuning companies etc.. pay for moderators wages or does SN make a profit, i.e run like a proper business with P&L accounts..

Of course SN is a business. You would need very deep pockets to keep a site like this running without proper income. I don't see a problem with this. If you look at the recent sale of Pistonheads it shows how popular motoring websites can become.

And as Puff hinted at before - we don't get paid!

I believe that the moderators hands are tied. The blame for poor moderating policy and weak decision making lies with Simon and Shaun. This forum could be run/administered in a far more professional manner, if they so chose. As smaller and less popular forums are run in a way that benefits the forum users (now theres a conflict of interest!) I can only conclude that S&S allow SN to continue as it is for reasons other than our mutual benefit.....
