Oh, and just to say I'm getting fed up of all the ads these days with a *green* slant. The washing powder one with lots of cute polar bears and 'turn to 30 deg' slogan.
The best though was Autoglass on the wireless thingie .... they argued somehow that getting the chip fixed rather than waiting for it to spread and break was better for the environment ... Better for you pocket maybe ...

I find that advert strange too. They're quite happy will millions and millions of litres of detergent etc to be pumped through the sewers but make a big deal out of 10 degrees.

When you fly back into the UK at 4 am and see all the street lights blazing you have to wonder how much electricity is being used to little purpose. I am sure that they could be switched off between say 1 and 5am for very little inconvenience, while saving a fortune.
Plus the fact that some of the light goes up into the sky where it is wasted, but accepted that building new lights is less environmentally friendly than letting the old ones reach their natural lifespan.
The technological solution would be to instal sensors on the motorways (In fact they're already available) and turn on the lights for say 1/2 mile ahead of a vehicle. That would look really

dont forget to fill the kettle up to the brim before boiling and always use the 4slice option on the toaster even when doing 2 slices... ( keeps the kitchen nice and warm)
get the iron out as well and let it warm up for a good half our...
also put a frozen pie for one in the oven - you know the ones that take so long to cook, you have more chance of dying from starvation, waiting then actually getting to taste it.
any more suggestions ???

I wouldn't care so much about all this "save the planet" crap, but the Yanks ares till driving round in 5 litre cars with petrol at ridiculously low prices, and the Chinese are building two new coal-fired power stations EVERY DAY!
Against that sort of stuff, ANYTHING we do is as nothing, so we might as well do nothing and stop paying all the stupid green taxes

Leave the central heating on and open windows to control the temperature.
Turn the thermostat up on the hot water so you only need a spoonful with gallons of cold for a bath.
Do a bit of arc welding. (My Mum never found out why she had such a huge electricity bill when I welded a new wing onto an Escort. )

Ive stopped leaving things on standby now, waste of time waiting for the things to come on, now they are on all the time for instant use
I have phone chargers plugged in and switched on in every room too, so when I move about the house my phone is always close by and can be on charge when not in use

The kids have been doing an 'Eco Week' all week in school, including having to walk to and from school
Today was the last day and they have all brought plastic pots home as plant pots, and plastic bottles as bird feeders etc
the little lad said to me on the way home, 'We have helped save the planet by not using the car to go to school this week' I said not really as you never use the car to go to school, you walk all the time
I asked them did the teachers tell them about the chinese and what they are doing to planet
Little lad said again 'whats wrong with their food' the only chinese they know is what we have from the chippy opposite the school from time to time

what about leaving your car running all day so that it does get a flat battery ? or turning the fridge up a wee bit so that the beer cools down quicker ? or you think these idea's would work ?
Belfast City Council are talking about "eco-friendly beacons" that can be burnt in place of the annual "eleventh night bonies (bonfires)" *
Windyboy
* a bonfire on the night of 11th July that is burnt as part of the Loyalist celebrations during the marching season.

its all propaganda to allow the govenment to tax us more, what we produce is less than 2% of the worlds CO2 output, all the mugs are being taken in by this crap ! The most obvious case was air travel tax, Easy jet and ryan air have the cleanest fleet of planes in the U.K. so they get taxed,The frieght planes are the oldest and most polluting so they dont get taxed !!!
we are being screwed big time

As for the turn-down to 30....
If people genuinely cared about the enviroment they wouldn't use these artificial chemical cleaning agents anyhow; and use something like Ecover.

On top of that, water vapour is by far the most dominant greenhouse gas - so the importance of CO2 diminishes even further!
Dave
PS: don't actually agree with leaving as much on as possible - 'cos it costs ME money. Sod the planet in this respect!

Same here! House will be lit up like a Christmas tree. Will also leave both cars needlessly idling on the drive for a extra little pollution.
What is it with these tree hugging *******? I don't try and impose my lifestyle on them so why do it to me?

Why waste money turning your lights on?
Start a big fire in your garden and burn all your rubbish,
Pros.
1. Gets rid of your rubbish. Sorts rumoured problems with rubbish tips.
2. Contibutes to Global Warming thus keeping you nice and warm
3. Saves you money as your not using Gas or Electric at rip off prices.
4. If everyone did it would pi$$ off the politicians
5. If everyone did it then tree huggers predictions would be accelerated and were all gonna die within an hour thus proving them idiots wrong
6. Should lead to lower council tax, don't need bin wagons, don't need binmen and don't need 10 different plastic bins for different types of rubbish. p.s. I have seen a plastic rubbish bin on fire, they burn well and for quite a while.
Cons.
1. Might have to buy some petrol as an accelerant to get it going
