Default Trigonometry

My minds gone blank!

I want to work out an angle in a triangle and I've forgotten my COS / SIN stuff!

Right angle triangle,

|
51cm |
|_____________ A
157 cm

What's the angle at A?

tan A = 51/157

so, A=tan-1 (51/157) = 18 degrees

Good for working out lengths but obviously no good if you require an angle.

Didn't you have to use spherical trigonometry when flying your planes; cotangents and haversines etc?
