What is good torrent software to use and what are the best torrent search sites? Can anyone explain in laymans terms how this torrent business works. I've used it to download lost but I don't really understand how it all works.
I used to use Limewire but it seems to be crap these days!

I use utorrent as a client and Torrent Search Engine Searcher - Torrent Scan (Powered by File Sharing Place dot BE) to search
It's just a fancy peer to peer file sharing malarky. Can be deadly slow sometimes (even on my 24Mbit broadband)

Here's one that's recommended:
Newsgroups: Giganews USENET News Servers
It's not the same as torrents, as you have to get what is available, while you can and can be a lot of downloading headers, just to check for files. But once you've got a little practise, there's no turning back.

EasyNews ® its a newsgroup reader site and has its own download manager but you need to register and it costs $9.99 per month (its american) you get a 20gb limit per much and it rolls over if you don't use it.

I use Easynews, you get 30 gig a month on NNTP, and it carries over from month to month, I've been a bit quiet of late, and have 221 GB available for downloading!
Giganews is the best, but at a price of course. Their retention is 120 days for binaries now (that's a lot of storage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Top whack for them is £24.99 a month I think, you'd have to be a serious downloader to use that.

T0rrents still going strong and still free.
Bitornado is the more honest of D/l clients (i.e it adheres to the true wishes of the original t0rrent creators in file sharing, plus no spyware etc).
Top ranking listing sites are found here: Slyck's Guide to BitTorrent - Websites
