Exclamation Mega storm West London

Wow, just had a hail and thunder storm lasted 5 minutes. Amazing to see the flights going to Heathrow suddenly take a wide berth.

Also saw a military 'copter flying straight through it with the bay doors open LOL.

Now we got car alarms and emergency services sirens going off all over

Also, you know how people look out their windows during thunder storms, fat bloke across the road opened his curtains, and his wife was bent over getting dressed behind him *yuk* - yes 1 half of the entire street could see her

Just noticed the hail has cleaned off the bird crap from our velux windows

Hopefully it's cleaned up the streets and killed of few pigeons

I live near the highest lightning conductor for a few miles, most thunderstorms mange to strike the ****** and always good for a big bang. To (mis)quote Evo magazine "sounded like a Deltic wrapped in a blanket being thrown down a flight of stairs"

You can see what going on at Heathrow by gong to:

Heathrow WebTrak

The feed is delayed by a minimum of 24 hours though, due to security constraints. Hope you like it, its something I've been pushing for since I've been there.

Oh, and we don't stack planes low over London, or anywhere near thunderstorms. It scares the punters!

Which is absolutely pointless I might add, considering you can get the data elsewhere or even buy your own equipment for £600.

Pointless?

Point 1. Data elsewhere relies on mode S transponders. Only 62% of LHR aircraft are mode S equipped. Therefore equipment such as the SBS receiver will only get 62% of LHR traffic. Not good if the aircraft you're interested in is one of the 38% that doesn't have mode S.

Point 2. Our system takes a direct feed off the NATS SSR at LHR. We get everything. We see everything.

Point 3. Its free.

The point is that I'm not sure what kind of security it really offers by delaying the data by 24 hours.

None at all. But TRANSEC wouldn't allow anything more up to date than 24 hours. As an airport authority, we have certain obligations to adhere to!
