Toilet breaks in the workplace
A friend of mine is working for a small company and is based in an office. Several colleagues have either left or been laid off in the last few months.
Now he remains the only male in the room with 4 females.
He has been pulled in by his boss twice in about the last 2 months stating "the ladies" have noticed that he goes off to the loo more than anyone else during a day and spends "excessive" time in there.
It's a difficult one to tackle as he doesn't want to challenge the ladies about this nor does he want to take it lightly.
They all know their jobs will be gone within a year so I have advised him to carry on and say nothing as it's them with the problem.
In the mean time does anyone know where he stands?
Women are funny fookas when they get together and niggle about nowt!

What in Gods name has it got to do with the wimmins, how often he goes to the loo. He wants to tell them to mind their own business and get on with their work. Christ.

Don't all men vanish in the loo for ages when they have a no 2? 
Anyway, like 84 said, none of their business how often he goes, isn't he better off going than holding it in and causing himself an infection, or peeing on the floor

If he spends that much time on the kamikaze, then he should invest in a book. Much better value than the daily tabloids that we are succumbed too each day.

He could make a point by putting a bucket next to his desk in the morning - when the women ask what it's for he should say it's for his daily dump as he's heard they've been complaints
that should shut them up
could even leave a box of tissues next to the bucket - when asked about them he could say he likes to fully empty himself when he goes to the loo

Fek that. I would be looking for another job. If they are that petty at timing the poor guy.
When I was employed (now self employed) they were lucky to get a couple of hour work out of me (blame scoobynet and Boxa.net) ... never mind timing me away from my desk.

When he goes for a dump, he should stand up and announce to the ladies..' I shall be gone a few minutes as I need to drop the kids off at the pool...'
They may feel they have issues if he disappears for regularly, and for long periods into the toilet but how do they know he doesn't have a medical condition which gives need to poo frequently???? Them keeping tabs on him when he goes to the bathroom must contravene some privacy or human rights law or something!!
By rights, the boss should provide at least one toilet, and seperate loos for both men and women if workers are of both sexes at the workplace...
but also saying that IIRC, there is no law saying that workers are entitled to toilet breaks - they are allowed a break of 20 mins per 6hours work, and that is the time when you have a clear right to use the bog.

If he worked on a production line, factory floor or a call centre then i can see his bosses point but not a run of the mill office.
Seems to me that his boss has it in for him & is just looking for an excuse.

Perhaps its not the pooing they are worried about, it could be if he does *other* things in there...?

a team leader will be over to see you when available
nobody around to cover your job, tough, you cant go to the toilet,
somebody was sooo desperate for the toilet he had a quick dump in a plastic box inbetween cars
and then got sacked for it eek:i saw somebody have a **** in the bin once inbetween cars

On a serious note (sorry all), from an employers point of view, I wouldn't want to try and defend myself in a tribunal if I'd taken disciplinary action over this....
I would suggest that if he's being sensible, and not taking the pish he's quite safe. I wouldn't advise he forces confrontation with his co-workers.

I'd stand up and announce to the slags that I was going for a nice big dump and may be some time... on my return give them the low down on the quality of the dump... consistency, smell, amount of remaining residue... Let them share the experience!
