Question Cherished Plate Transfers?

Hi all,

I put down a deposit on a new car yesterday (woohoo ) and want to transfer my cherished number plate over to the new car. Normally the dealer would take the paperwork to Manchester for me, but this dealership is effectively the salesman and his mum, so they wont/cant physically take the docs down for me.
He gave me the MOT for the new car and log book and says that's all I will need (along with my current cars matching docs), but I am looking for some reassurance as I am not making this trip twice.

Can anyone confirm what I need to do? I have tried the DVLA website, but struggled to find this info.

Ta

Is the car taxed ?? you will need the number from the top of the disc if it is. If not you will have to pay for it when you are at the DVLA.

You will also need the numbers off your tax disc "the donor car"

Cheers Wish,

I had thought the tax disc was involved somewhere along the line...

If your cherished number is on retention at the moment, then you can the retention certificate off along with the V5 and MOT when you re-register the car in your name.

Wimbledon DVLA office used to do it on the spot, but over the last couple of years, they've changed it to post only - I don't know whether that's relevant to all DVLA offices, or just them.

Enjoy the new purchase
