![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
hi all,
i'm a member of an online games forum. one of the moderators has asked if i could possibly alter their banner. to put it frankly, i haven't a clue where to start.
what i want is to change the following 468 x 60 banner to something a little boxier like 418 x 150.
http://www.gamesforum.com/images/gamesforum_468x60.gif
can anyone here do this for me, or advise how i can do it myself? thanks in advance for any help.
cheers,
Kevin

What exactly do you want though? You could just crop it to the desired size, but that will lose loads of it.
You can re-size it without losing anything, but again, it will distort it terribly.
Can you be a bit more specific with what you want to achieve?

For a start it's an animated GIF, so you'd need to not only change the background size but also the size of the text as well.
I've just quickly resized the image to 418 x 150 and it looks absolutley horrific, not to say it's no longer animated.
Ideally you'd want the original files the GIF was created from, at which point you might be able to make a better job of resizeing it. The text would probably need to be smaller to fit the loss in width, and the side images would need a tiny increase or spacing to fit the added height.
Photoshop would be a good tool to use for this as you could create different layers for the elements, for exmaple, you'd have a layer for the background, the text, and a layer for the left and right hand side images.
Not sure about animated GIF's in photoshop though. It's been some time since I created any animated GIFs and I can't remember what I used, possibly something like Fireworks

That's not Photoshop though
it's Image Ready.
Here's how:

hi guys,
thanks - highly technical. he did say to change it if i could, so i thought i'd seek tech advice here as have had lost of help with photoshop in the past on SN and i know you guys are good at this stuff.
basically he wants it do the same thing it does now, only to fit he dimensions he specified or as near as damn it!
i can pass on the infor re needing the orginal GIF files. i just thought someone might have an application that could do this sort of thing without too much fuss.

What you need is the original .psd document with layers intact.
As Markus says, to resize & change the image proportions will distort the image..
You would get away with the image width you need by a few sceen grabs of the animated gif in its various states & resizing, but to change it completely you'll need the original files.
Why not ask the person who did it originally - looks like a great banner to me?
